This is hard to answer without see it in person. Check and make sure there is no broken pieces on the bottom where you could loose suction. Also make sure you have the machine set correctly for either bare floors or carpet. If it is on set on carpet and yopu are cleaning bare floors you might loose suction there also. Also make sure you check all pathways for the dirt to get to the canister fo any signs of blockage. Are all the filters in place like they should be? Sounds like the suction is getting diverted from the floor somehow, make sure everything is secure and locked in place on the canister. Also check on the top of the handle and make sure the little purple screen is moved back into place covering the top of the handle, you could be sucking more air in thru this inlet and not enough off the floor! This is usually moved out of the way when you connect the hose to the handle for your attatchments. It may still be pulled back and needs to be moved forward into place!

BISSEL POWERGLIDE BAGLESS VACUUM WON'T SUCK FROM FLOOR. BEATER BAR WONT TURN. PLENTY OF SUCTION FROM HOSE. BELT REPLACED.

Hello, this is Ava with Think Crucial.

There are a number of reasons why your brush roller has stopped moving. General maintenance to your vacuum is crucial and will help it work at peak performance.

First things first lets focus on the brush roller. Unplug the vacuum and turn it on its side. Look for any noticeable clumps of debris or hair strands that may be caught in the brush roller. Remove these obstructions, probably best to do so with a scissor if it's hair or long pieces of carpet fibers. After removing the debris try manually rotating the brush roller to uncover other hidden clogs. Another thing to take note of is the condition of the bristles on the roll itself. Are they loose or worn down? These are signs that your brush roller is in need of replacing.

While checking out your brush roll you might as well take a look at your vacuum's belt. Your belt should be replaced about every three months. After regular usage, the belt will stretch out, lessening the tension on the brush roller. Lesser tension diminishes the brush roller's turn rate and speed. If the belt feels loose then it certainly is affecting your vacuums suction as well as your brush roll not moving at all.

Vacuum brushes are turning but not picking up dirt and is blowing a lot of air out of the top air filter thing

Did you check carefully for splits? After sucking something up that big, you may have split something, like in a fold of the hose. When it is in a position where the split is somewhat sealed, it works. Move it just a bit and the split separates and it won't work.

I cleaned the brush took the whole head apart put it back together now it wont pick up anything. plus it only works whennyou release the handle

Hi Jennifer, it's Jack at Dyson.

Like most current Dyson upright vacuums, DC40's brush bar is engineered to shut off for protection if something jams it. Although I appreciate you've already checked the cleaner head for any issues, you might like to do so again following the steps shown in the Support video I've attached. You should then be able to reset the machine.

Please note, the brush bar will never rotate when the machine is standing upright, so please recline it into the normal vacuuming position before testing it. With the machine running, press the silver brush control switch twice.

You may also like to check for any blockages which could be effecting pickup performance. Just follow the steps shown in our online troubleshooting guide: http://www.dyson.com/support/dc40/dc40-multi-floor/my-machine-is-not-working/machine-not-sucking-up-well

If you're still having difficulty after you've given this a try, it would be best if you can get in touch with us directly so our experts can provide further assistance. Dyson upright and canister vacuums come with a 5-year warranty, and if a repair or replacement part is needed we'll be happy to confirm if this is covered.

You can reach the Dyson customer Helpline by calling 0800 298 0298 (UK), 1-866-693-9766 (US), 1-877-397-6622 (CA) or 1800 239 766 (AU).

My Kirby is blowing out not sucking in how do I change this?

Either there is a blower option on the vacuum cleaner that needs to be set back to where it belongs, or somebody changed the brushes on the motor and got the brush or field wire connections reversed (one or the other, but not both).

Need to replace belt and cannot figure how to take it apart to get at the belt --- Took Screws off on the bottom but could not get to the belt

You have already removed the screws so lift the brush cover off. Then grasp rotating floor brush at both ends and lift. Clean strings, hair and other debris from rotating brush, paying close attention to the brush ends. Clean the debris from motor pulley and drive belt areas.Grasp old drive belt and remove from motor pulley. Place new drive belt over motor pulley and stretch other end over rotating floor brush in the space between the bristles. Place the ends of the rotating floor brush down into slots on the sides. Turn the rotating floor brush by hand several times in the direction of motor pulley. If installed properly, drive belt will center itself on rotating brush. Reposition brush cover and screw back into place. I hope that this helps you!

I have a dyson model seven all floor. It is making a terrible grinding noise when the carpet knob is engaged. Could something have gotten sucked up into the belt compartment, off the brush belt? Any...

That is most likely what happened. You may want to open up the bottom where the floor brush is and check the condition of the belt and as to whether or not something is caught in the belt or beater brush. The owner's manual should provide directions on changing the belt. While you are changing the belt, give the beater brush a good cleaning and add some WD40 to the ends of the brush where the plastic holders are located.
If you find my solution to be of help, I would appreciate a Thumbs Up rating from you.

Floor level brush stopped rotating after it caught

Look at the bottom and check a thread of carpet isn't wrapped around the brush, if so try pulling it off or carefully cutting it off. You'll probably see a collection of fluff etc above the brush that's stopping it from sucking up, pull this out, or it just may be that cause the brush isn't working its not picking up.
If this helps please rate me

Turns on, brush rotates, but no suction.

the only thing i know about vacs is if there is no suction its blocked might have sucked up a piece of plastic bag and wraped around the fan hence no air or the screw that holds the fan has come loose take your filters out and turn on you may have sucked up fluid and not known it hence filters are blocked also brushes may seem alright but may be worn under half there fore springs are not at right tentsion if your armiture is black where the brushes run on may not be getting a good contact or if it smells burnt good chance you burnt it out then theres the power switch test with multi tester the check for loose terminals then test the field coils are correct ohms as well

DC07 bottom brush does not rotate.

I can not pinpoint what exactly solved the issue. I opened the bottom conver, cleaned any presence of hair, cleaned all hoses (yes hose was completely clogged), made sure that the brush bar was engaged by switching the selector back and forth few times from Carpet to Bare floor. (On bare floor setting, brush bar won't rotate).

Now I am happy that the vacuum is completely cleaned and back in operation!
