Hi

It may be helpful if you go into control panel sound and audio and check out if it is set for the speakers correctly

One of my laptop speakers on my Dell Inspiron 1420 just stopped working so the sound isn't as loud as it should be. Where do I go to fix it?

I would plug a set of headphones into the sound output socket. That will prove if there is a problem on the board of if the speaker is faulty. If you have only one earphone working, then you have a problem with either a balance control or the amplifier.
Check the dersktop audio controller settings. If all looks balanced then there is a good possibility that the amplifier is faulty, if one side is down, adjust the balance control.

My inspiron 1420 has the same problem too..

The reason for this is that the metal tag inside the speaker connector has not sprung back to rejoin the internal speakers It acts like a switch so when you push a plug into it it separates the tag from internal to the position on the inserted plug that connects it to the earphone or external. Sometimes this tag gets weak so when the plug is removed it does not spring back .There is not a lot you can do about this as it is attached to the motherboard and is a mammoth job to unsolder and replace.

No sound from speaker can hear sound using earphone

please ensure that the earphones are unplugged when testing the speakers. also, please ensure that the mute button along the top of your keyboard is not lit-up or in the off position. (usually looks like a speaker with a strike through it).

please also check for a volume control switch or button that mey be set very low.

Left internal spkr not working

Try connecting an external set of speakers or headphones, see if you get both channels, if you do, then the speaker assy is bad and needs replacement.

If you only get audio on 1 channel externally, then check all the sound settings in Control Panel (make sure correct speakers are selected and the playback settings are all correct.)

No sound can be heard from my laptop without using an earphone

Check your settings for sound in the control panel the fact that you can hear sound from the headphones indicates that the sound card is functioning correctly and not muted. It may be disabled in the control panel.
