i have a JVC Everio GZ-MG57 hard disk camcorder. The problem I have is the light sensor, when I turn on the camera and remove the lense cap it tells me the lense cap is still in place and the image on the screen is extreemly dull even outside on sunny days. On the jvc website there are reports of this problem with other JVC products which they are repairing free of charge but unfortunatly not my model.

I had the same problem on my GR-D750U and JVC will fix it.  See
http://www.jvcservice.com/service/CustNoticeCamcorder.asp?PgReq=DspDtaDtl&MdlNbr=GR-D750US&Pgm=CCD

If you have a different product, try replacing the GR-D750 in the URL above with your product and see if a valid warrantee page is returned.

SOURCE: Display reads ''remove lens cap''

I had the very same problem with my gr d33 dv camcorder, very frustrating..I rang the jvc service support centre on 0870 330 5000,and spoke to a very helpful chap called kevin ,they ask when and where you bought it and the serial number which is underneath the cam,the fault is with a ccd sensor and a common problem with many jvc cams ..they offer a free repair up to june 2009 for some models iv`e checked and yours is valid for repair..they arrange to pick it up from your house and back all free..they took mine and returned it in 5 days which is a very good .and it works perfect .Hope iv`e been of some help to you..

My Daewoo DVG-5000N does not load the DVD correctly. It tries to spin it up and stops again while displaying that it is "loading". After a while it displays "no disc".

No disc error is usually caused by dirty optical lens or a faulty lens. Turn it off, unplug it, then try cleaning it with a very soft dry cloth and then try playing a cd which has no scratches.

The blue color part, that's called optical lens. It looks like a glass but its not a glass, its a plastic cap for the laser to go thru to read the discs. Never apply any wet solutions on it. Just use a soft dry cloth to rub off the dirt on it.

check to see if part of the lens cap snapped off into one of the connection areas or if the lens cap sensor is a button that is stuck down. If not, there may be damage to the electrical and or optical hardware behind the lens.

Display is black even after removing the lens cap

See my post of before. I just knocked the camera on the floor by mistake and it miraculously started working again after years. Shows it must be mechanical and not related to software.
