You will need to boot to you CD labeled "For the Re-installation of Windows XP, You can select the 1 time boot menu by pressing F12 when prompted at the startup (Prompt is normally in upper right corner of the screen.

Once you select boot from CD/DVD drive, then you have to press any key (I suggest the space bar) to boot to the XP CD.

Follow the prompts for a new installation of XP and when you select the partition, it is normally partitino #2 NTFS. Reformat that partition again NTFS (This helps remove all the infected files) then use the normal default values to reinstall XP

Once the XP install is complete, insert the Dell Resource CD
This should go thru a menu installation, then a license agreement. This CD allows you to reinstall all the utilities and drivers for XP

The 1st item to install is the Notebook System Software, normally located in the utilties section.

After the Notebook system software, comes the drivers

Chipset
Video
Audio
NIC
Wireless
Touchpad

Then you should be able to access the internet

1st place to go

http://free.grisoft.com

Download and install free AVG antivirus

Then

http://www.java.com and install Java

http://www.adobe.com

Install Shockwave, Flash and Adobe Reader

From there, install you other applications

Dumping error

Solution

Step 1: Check Recently Installed Hardware and Device Drivers

It has been found that many times BSoD occurs because of a faulty device driver or there is a conflict with the recently installed hardware. In such cases, try the latest version of the driver and reinstall the hardware, but before that make sure the hardware is compatible with your system. To pinpoint the problem, you can use third-party software to disable a recently installed driver and see if the problem is solved. Sometimes the problem also could be that the device driver has not been properly configured to meet the requirements of the system.
Step 2: Repair Your Registry
The second most common cause of BSoD is a Registry that has become corrupted or has a lot of invalid entries. If you are experienced and knowledgeable about the Registry, you can edit it yourself, but this is always a risky proposition, and the best course of action would be to buy special software which automatically scans and fixes problems in the Registry.
Step 3: Check CMOS and Memory Modules
If the error message on the BSoD reads "UNEXPECTED_KERNEL_MODE_TRAP," then it indicates you have problem with the memory of your computer. You need to check whether the SIMMs (Single Inline Memory Modules) are compatible and have the same speed. Secondly, also check whether you have set the CMOS (Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) to the right amount of RAM. If these solutions do not work, you might have to replace memory in your computer.
Step 4: Rectify a Damaged Hard Drive
Sometimes the cause of BSoD is a faulty hard disk. Most Windows operating systems have a diagnostic scan for the hard drive, and you need to run this to figure out the problem. Sometimes the operating system will encounter a problem where it is unable to read from the hard disk, and in such cases apart from the hard disk, you also need to check out the SCSI (Small Computer System Interface) terminator.
Step 5: Scan for Virus
BSoD problem can also be caused by a virus which has infected crucial files in the hard drive that might disrupt the flow of information between the operating system and hard drive. If you have already installed antivirus software, you might have to scan your computer with a new one.

Gateway MT6840 unexpectedly shut down and wouldn't

First - re-seat the hard disk and reboot the computer. If the computer does not boot up then reboot and go into the BIOS configuration to see if the BIOS detects the hard drive. If it doesn't detect the hard drive then it could be faulty.
Then the hard drive needs to be replaced in the computer/laptop, Windows installed and the computer or laptop's device drivers plus your programs etc. to get a functioning computer/laptop again.

I keep getting a bluescreen. I reformatted the hard drive and installed window xp. I'm still getting a bluescreen. I don't know what to do ?

The blue screen is caused by a bad program or driver. In the BSOD you will be given the error code and what program triggered it - identify that program and uninstall it.
If you get a different program every time the BSOD happens then the hard disk is dying, you will have to replace it and reinstall Windows again.

Got blue screen.. Trying to restart, but it is going in a loop on all different start up modes. What can i do?

If your computer came with a recovery disk, insert the disk into the optical drive and power the laptop down. On the initial boot screen, select BOOT Options by pressing, typically, F4, F8, F10, or F12 (Each computer is different).
Tell your computer to start up using the "CD/DVD", and run Windows Repair from the recovery disk.
If you do not have a recover disk, remove the battery and the power cord for a few minutes (Let all the power drain out of the motherboard, replace and restart.
As a last resort, you may have to reinstall Windows. If you install Windows 7, there is an option when selecting a drive to install on (You can't miss it) that will backup your files prior to the installation.

I keep getting a blue screen. Put in my Back up

That blue screen you get is known to be the BSOD (Blue Screen Of Death) and is also known as the Blue Screen Error. The BSOD is caused by a device driver or chages in drivers or may even be a virus. Try obtaining a Windows reinstallation disk and reinstall windows. Keep trying your backup disk and look on the internet on how to use backup disks.

Good Luck!!

Hope i helped.
