Question about Electrolux Kitchen Ranges

Open Question

Hello, I have an Electrolux (Arthur Martin) gas hob/stove with a central, large burner. That burner still lights and works normally until the knob is release after ignition, when the gas shuts off. The other four burners work normally, though sometimes one has, briefly, a similar problem. I have cleaned thoroughly plus tried exchanging the burner inserts just in case. One detail: This problem manifested itself after I had been using propane for some months before installation of regular gas; now, regardless of burner insert, it works with neither fuel. Thank you

SOURCE: Stove burner igniter does not work.

Your problem is not the igniter itself, but the burner switch that controls the igniter. All the igniters get their power from one spark module that is mounted somewhere in back of the oven. That's why you are able to get all the igniters to spark with only one burner control turned on. This is normal. That is also why you are able to light the burner in question buy turning on another burner. The spark is being provided by a switch that is working. To answer your question: the igniter is removable, but I don't think it's necessary. Cleaning them generally doesn't make them work better. I would check the wiring from the spark module to the burner switch and/or replace the switch. I hope this helps.

SOURCE: Maytag MGR6775 Gas stove. One igniter not working.

Clean the burner with a wire brush around where the ignitor is. it needs a proper ground to ignite. When you turn the burner on do you hear a click click click? If so this should solve the problem.

SOURCE: kenmore glass top range left front large burner out

check the burner socket, it is likely that contact is being lost where the burner connects to the hardwired portion of the system (the socket). It is not unusual for the socket to "burn up" when there is a poor connection to the burner resulting in the burner being replaced and the new burner not working or working intermittently.

Front right burner will not ignite

I'd get a briquette lighter down in there when you turn it on and try to light it manually. If it does not light, it is a gas supply problem (bad valve or control), and time to call appliance guy. If it does light, the spark path over to the burner may just be plugged with something. If you have gas + spark, but no fire, it almost has to be that the spark can't reach the gas for some reason. That usually comes from something being plugged up.

My oven wont turn off from the knob it keeps turning

You didn't say whether you have a gas or electric oven, or oven & stove. I'll assume you have a stove, just to cover all bases.

First, you should shut down the oven: a gas stove will have a valve on the gas line behind the stove. The valve will either have a red handle or a flat stem that usually has a hole in it. Turn either valve 1/4 turn to shut off gas, use a wrench on the flat stem. An electric stove should be shut off by flipping off the double circuit breaker for it in your electric panel. Do not unplug an electric stove when it is on; this can damage the plug &/or electrocute you.

Most likely the inside of the knob has stripped out. Look at the knob for a hole that has a setscrew in it: a small allen wrench or screwdriver will loosen the setscrew, most knobs don't have them and will pull off. Be careful to use even pressure on two sides of the knob; if you can't pull it off, use two butter knives or flat screw drivers to pry it up enough to get a grip on it.

Look at the center stem on the back of the knob, it will likely be cracked or stripped. Some stems have a D-shaped metal insert that strips out inside the plastic stem. If you have one, pull off a burner knob and compare the stems in the back, if they are the same size, put the burner knob on the shaft for the oven control, and use that knob to turn the oven control off.

If the burner knob won't fit, use your fingers or a pair of pliers (gently) to turn off the oven control shaft. If the shaft stops normally, you can turn the stove back on using either the gas valve or the circuit breaker. If you have a gas stove that doesn't have electric ignition (a clicking noise when you turn on a burner) you may need to re-light the pilots for the burners. Lift the covers off the burners to re-light the pilots.

If you have succeeded in turning off the oven, you need a new knob -- you can get one at an appliance parts store or maybe a hardware store. If the oven control did not turn off normally, I would leave the oven/stove turned off: the control itself will need to be replaced by a qualified repair person.

Gas stove blows off the knobs

When you went to use the stove again it sounds like a burner did not light. The gas built up and then came into contact with a flame and ignited. Gas, propane or natural, does not float around and dissipate, it settles and builds up, which is what it sounds like happened, and then ignites with a flame or spark. When you suspect that gas has been on, it is best to wait and turn a fan or something on to dissipate the gas before trying to light a burner...

We have an electrolux gas hob and it seems as if the electric spark ignition is stuck and it is clicking all the time on all four burners. Wonder if you have any suggestions ??

Hello,
The problem is one(or more) of the 4 switches that turn on the spark when that burner is turned on is shorted and stays closed (on) all the time.To determine which one it is the face where the knobs are has to be removed, with THE POWER OFF a meter set to low ohms rating is used to check each switch by removing the wires to it and see which one has continunity (ZERO OHMS) when its off and that switch that slips on the burner valve shaft is the bad switch(s) and needs to be replaced to keep it from sparking all the time.

I hope this helps you to repair your cooktop,
Gene

The large burner on stove keeps clicking away on its own as if you were trying to light it

The ignitor switch for that burner is bad. It is located behind the control knob for that burner.

Clicking sound on my gas stove

there switches behind each knob, 1 of them is broken,or wet, when you remove the knobs then remove the knob panel you can test them and find the bad one, they are no more then $15.00 each. to test you can plug the stove and disconect the switches one at a time until you find the bad one replace and you are back in bussines.
