Question about EliteGroup L4S5MG3-GX Motherboard

Open Question

Hi there im not really a techie so please bear with me hehe, problems regarding a hitachi 80gb ide hd and l4s5mg-3gx+ rev 5.0 mobo , a few days ago i turned the system on and it ran fine for about 20-30mins , then i played some mp3 files from my flash disk which i got from a friend , after 3 songs my system just crashed and it restarted by itself , now every time i turn my system on it seems as it its loading then it always brings me to a black screen where i have 5 options , start with safe mode , command prompt , last known configuratiion and start windows normally. whatever option i choose the system will just restart and it will bring me to the same page over and over , ive also checked my bios and selected both load failsafe defaults and load optimized settings(not sure if i named those correctly) and it still continues the cycle of restarting. so what i did next is i ask my friend to format my hd on his system to see if it would work. he agreed but told me we should scan my hitachi hd first before formating it , so as to make sure its not a virus or something , and so we did , he first used malwarebytes then avira antivirus , not really sure what version he used , after the scan the result showed that there were about 20-30 infections ,which were all located on the WINDOWS folder on my drive c:, after he removed the infections i asked him to format my hd. after awhile he finished the format and installed a fresh copy of windows xp home edition. he then tried to start his system using my hd and everything ran smoothly. Once everything was done i went back home and plugged my hd to my own system. yet it still brings me to the same black screen with 5 options. the next thing i did was read some topics on some sites regarding how to format and install windows xp , next i tried booting my own system up from the CD , but it always gets stuck on the blue screen where it says loading windows executive , I've tried 3 different copies of windows xp home and pro edition but still nothing. am i doing something wrong? or does that mean my mobo and my hd are dead? any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated..

I dropped Hitachi external drive...

If you have no backup and your drive is damaged, that is it, no data.
Plug the usb in with your drive, leave your computer looking for the drive. If windows, it may take some time. If Mac it won't be long. If neither can see it, the TOC is damaged and it will need a computer engineer to try and recover the drive.

IDE Problem (I Think)

Depends what kind of motherboard is. You may want to check with a different IDE ribbon cable. Make sure that the IDE controller is ENABLED within BIOS. Set the HDD as Master - see those jumpers next to the power and data connectors. Try with another (IDE) HDD and see if the controller is working. Don't asume the 1st HDD is working OK, you never know may be broken now ...

Hard disk acess problem

Hi, What the message mean is that Windows can not read/understand the filing system (something like the Table of Contents in a book) and therefore do not which and where are your files in the 80Gb. A few things you can try: 1. Run Windows Scandisdk on the Hitachi 80Gb; 2. Run any third party disk check/utility such Norton Disk Doctor. Alternately, you can use a file recovery software (such as GetDataBack) to recover/copy all your important files from the 80Gb and transfer them to another mass storage device. Thereafter, you can re-partition and re-format the said Hitachi to start new/fresh/clean. Hope this be of some help/idea. Post back how things turnes up or should you need further information. Good luck and kind regards.
