First, make sure that both the video adapter's drivers & the motherboard's chipset drivers are installed properly & that they are up to date. You will need to check Dell's web site for any updated drivers, then download & install them. Here is the page you would want to check for updated drivers: Drivers & Downloads for Vostro Notebook 1510

If this did not help resolve your problem, make sure that your laptop is not overheating. If you touch the laptop while it is running & you find it too hot, make sure that the fan is running properly & that the air ways are not blocked. You can blow compressed air into the cooling vents of the fan. If you notice clouds of dust coming out, then it might be a good idea to disassemble the laptop, clean the fan & air ways, & reassemble it back. If the fan has failed & is no longer running, it might need to be replaced.

Further more, you might need to check the thermal grease on top of the processor's & the graphics adapter's surface. If you found that it has dried up, you will need to carefully remove it off the surface of both chips using a clean soft cloth, & then re-apply fresh thermal grease. You can buy it at electronic stores or Radio Shack. Beware that this will require that you disassemble the laptop to the level where you could got access to the heatsink/fan assembly.

Full illustrated instructions on disassembling the Vostro 1510 could be found in the
Dell Vostro 1510 Service Manual
Hope you find this helpful

Webcam not recording video

Some webcams and programs require additional software, although that should be installed with the webcam if things are right. But is does not harm to check if your Java, Flash and Quicktime software are installed and up to date. But certainly check your DirectX software, since all video applications, including webcams, use DirectX for video processing. Try downloading the latest DirectX version and install it (Windows XP: DirectX 9.0c - Windows Vista: DirectX 10). http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Which-version-of-DirectX-is-on-your-computer The Dell Inspiron line of laptop computers allows consumers to customize their system in a number of ways, from hardware specifications to color. The laptop also comes with an integrated webcam that can be used as a camera and for video Web chats. You can use the camera from the Dell Webcam Manager application, which controls all the functions of the camera.

Click the "Start" button on your computer, highlight "All Programs," and select "Dell Webcam Manager" from the list of available applications. Click on the "Webcam Center" icon. From the tab at the top of screen, select the action you want the camera to perform. You can use the camera to record videos, snap photos, detect motion, monitor remotely, and take time-lapse video. Press the "Record" button to start recording video or take a snapshot.

I have a Veratec desktop computer and am having all kinds of problems with it. It is one year old. Will not communicate with my dell printer A920 and is difficult to operate otherwise. Please help.

Well what operating system do you have on it? Windows7 doesnt like some printers. check online for print drivers and update them. Follow this link to help you with that... http://support.dell.com/support/topics/global.aspx/support/kcs/document?c=us&l=en&s=gen&docid=DSN_FA36C542525D975EE030030ABD621881&isLegacy=true
you can also try this approach... First, let's make sure your computer has the latest Windows Updates, especially .net framework, needed to run many applications and the latest Java.

Disconnect your printer.

Download and run this patch (***WARNING*** The patch for this printer also removes other Dell applications, like Dell Dock, Dell QuickSet and other Dell applications)(These applications can be downloaded at Drivers & Downloads and can be reinstalled) to completely remove the printer from your computer. Run the patch(A MUST on Vista Machines) until it prompts you to restart your computer.

If using Windows 7 also try...Manual Printer Driver Removal

Restart your computer.

Download the proper drivers.

XP Drivers

Vista 32-bit Drivers

Vista 64-bit drivers

All other drivers

Install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect your printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

If using Windows 7, use the Vista drivers in the compatibility mode.

Right click on the setup.exe file, left click properties, left click compatibility. Change the compatibility to Vista(Try Vista SP2). Then install the proper drivers. You'll be prompted when to connect the printer(powered on)

***To install drivers, sometimes the file unzips and does nothing. You have to look for the setup.exe file, right click on it, then left click run as administrator***

As for scanning, if you have the disk that came with the printer, then insert the Printer disk and stop it from running. Go to My Computer and double click on it. Look for the drive with the Dell disk in it. Right click on it, left click explore. Look for the OCR Folder. In the OCR Folder, there is an Abbyy Folder. right click on setup.exe, that's in the Abbyy Folder and left click run as administrator. This will install the OCR program.

Scanning

Scanning using USB connection, open the Dell All-In-One Center, click on scanning and copying and scan from there.

Scanning wirelessly, use the scan buttons on the printer.

What is the purpose of java

high-level programming language developed by Sun Microsystems. Java was originally called OAK, and was designed for handheld devices and set-top boxes. Oak was unsuccessful so in 1995 Sun changed the name to Java and modified the language to take advantage of the burgeoning World Wide Web. Java is an object-oriented language similar to C++, but simplified to eliminate language features that cause common programming errors. Java source code files (files with a .java extension) are compiled into a format called bytecode (files with a .class extension), which can then be executed by a Java interpreter. Compiled Java code can run on most computers because Java interpreters and runtime environments, known as Java Virtual Machines (VMs), exist for most operating systems, including UNIX, the Macintosh OS, and Windows. Bytecode can also be converted directly into machine language instructions by a just-in-time compiler (JIT). Java is a general purpose programming language with a number of features that make the language well suited for use on the World Wide Web. Small Java applications are called Java applets and can be downloaded from a Web server and run on your computer by a Java-compatible Web browser, such as Netscape Navigator or Microsoft Internet Explorer.

Lately, since we have gotten the internet, and downloaded the required drivers and whatnot our picture doesn't seem to be working. If you go onto youtube and try and watch a video the sound works well but...

Confirm if you have the following applications installed on your PC. But first be sure that the vga driver is installed. The practical way to confirm that the vga is installed is to play a video with a media player application. If during playback the pictures do not hop/break, you know that your vga is installed. Otherwise go to device manager and update your vga driver. To do, this right click on my computer/properties/hardware (xp) then device manager (vista) device manager. Here, look for display adapters. Here you should see a yellow caution sign. Right click on it and select update driver. Mind you, you must be online at the instance.

When that is done and you still are encountering the same problem, download and install the following applications:-

1. flashplayer
2. java (jre-6u15-windows-i586-s)
3. shockwave
