Question about NetGear WNDR3300 - RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router

1 Answer

Netgear WNDR3300, I use a 10meg cable modem, i am getting great speed at the desktop downstairs where the modem and Netgear router is located. Upstairs the laptops are snail slow loading. Laptops are clean and have 2gigs of ram and have never had problems. Laptops show excellent wifi signal strength. I have reset the modem and i have reset the router. Still very slow speeds upstairs. distance from modem to laptops is no more than 60ft. Suggestions?

More information is needed.
Is the 'WAN' port on the Netgear router connected to anything?
(cable-modem? DSL-modem?)

How many friends will come over at the same time?
How many 'LAN' ports are on the Linksys? How many ports are "free" ?

How many "spare" Ethernet cables do you have?

Hi, I'm an idiot! PLEASE HELP

you may be suffering from mixed Cat 5 and Cat 6 cabling.
The wiring is slightly different and they don't work well when mixed in routers and modems etc. One or the other will work , but when they're mixed it'll do what you have going on here...

I would recommend wiring everything with cat 6 ethernet cabling. Look on your cable and you will find the labeling on the outer casing.

Connect the lan cable from the dsl modem into the first port on your netgear router ..
make sure your dsl modem is on PPPoE mode so that it autoconnects..
Now just connect to your wireless router via your pc interface..
*Do add a network key to your wireless network to avoid unwanted access
