How to Run Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test
Summary
Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test is a diagnostic tool that tests the hard drives in Lenovo ThinkPad, ThinkCentre, and Lenovo 3000 computers running Windows XP or Vista released after January 2004. If you are experiencing issues with your Lenovo product, you may run this test to determine if your issues are hard drive related.
Running Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test
To run Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test from Windows, follow these steps:
1. Download the test to your computer.
2. Run the application install and choose the defaults. Once installed, the application will be placed under a "Lenovo Services" choice on your Start Menu.
3. If the application detects that the Lenovo System Toolbox is already installed, it will ask whether you want to continue the installation. This is because the new hard drive test is installed by default as part of the Lenovo System Toolbox.
4. Choose a drive if you have more than one drive.
5. Start the Test
Testing in process:
1. The test may take 4 to 6 minutes depending on the size and speed of the drive.
2. When the diagnostics are complete, a message will be displayed indicating that test "Passed", "Failed", or "further testing is required to verify the drive's proper operation". If further testing is required, start running the extended test. The test may take more than an hour depending on the size and speed of the drive.
3. When the diagnostics are complete the extended test, a message will be displayed indicating that the test Passed" or Failed".
4. If the test failed, contact Lenovo Support Center
Note: Lenovo Hard Drive Quick Test is included in http://www.lenovo.com/systemtoolbox
Lenovo System Toolbox is a full application of computer diagnostics utilities.

hope this helps

Thinkpad A31 been unused for 12 months. Still appears to boot into windows, plenty of hard drive activity but no video displayed on screen at all, totally blank. I am pretty sure it boots fully into...

Sometimes I have seen something like this where there actually is a harddrive error, and it just acts like it books. It would be good to run a scan of the Hard drive. With something like GWScan. The Ultimate Boot CD would be able to run this for you.

Error 19990301 on a Thinkpad 600 usually indicates that the hard drive is not properly connected, and error code 19990305 signifies "no bootable device". So, it's the hard drive.

First of all, I would try removing and replacing the drive to see if that cures it. You can get the service manual from Lenovo at http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?lndocid=LWIK-3SYPX2

If this doesn't fix it, the hard drive is faulty. However, small size hard drives (10 or 20Gb) which suit these older machines are very cheap on eBay.

    Laptop is locked out

    This works great
    Forgotten Power-on password
If the Power-on password is forgotten
and the Supervisor password is known,
simply go into the ThinkPad BIOS setup
utility and reset the Power-on password,
    otherwise try the following:
    Turn off the computer.
    Remove the battery pack.
Remove the backup battery. This is
    located under the battery.
Turn on the computer and wait until the
POST ends. After the POST ends, the
password prompt does not appear. The POP
    has been removed.
Reinstall the backup battery and the
    battery pack.
Note: Some ThinkPad systems have the
ability to reset the Power-on passwords
in the ThinkPad BIOS setup utility if a
    Supervisor password has been set.

    Thinkpad 600E

IBM Thinkpad error code 19990301 is a Hard-Disk sector problem. Basically your hard-drive is faulty and you need to replace it. This is why it wont boot; because the area of the hard-drive that stores data is damaged.
