Question about Dryers

2 Answers

My dryer (Simpson Minimax 150) seems to be choked? It gets hot and the drum spins, but it doesn't dry clothes and upon opening the door, heaps of steamy air pours out. The lint filter is clean. Is there somewhere else that requires "de-linting?"

Probably the belt from the fan has broken. The fan is what moves the hot steamy air out of the unit.

Check your vents sounds like it is cloged up with lint. Take the vent off the
dryer and see if the air is coming out good , if not check for lint in the machine and around the blower. If air comes out good check the out side vent for good air flow.if you have a leaf blower you might blow it out from the inside to the outside. Hope this helps

Sounds like a belt problem with no clothes in the dryer turn the dryer on for a minute or so open the door if the drum is spinning it not belt if drum is not spinning it's more that likely the belt that turns the drum.also need to check the exhaust hose in back of dryer it could have a blockage check lint screen also.Hope this helps.

My dryer is producing heat but is not drying, i am drying the same size load i usually do on the same cycle. the lent is cleaned out, and the oustide vent is blowing hot air. why are my clothes not getting...

make sure that all the seals are ok, door, front and back drum seal, blower housing seal(inside dryer). also consider that depending on washer type if you overload or have a worn drive belt in washer it will take twice the time to dry. also make sure that the dryer drum tumble. open door, press door switch and start dryer to see if drum turn. lastly disconnect vent pipe behind dryer and dry a load. if it dry ok then you have a partial blockage. you can also have a weak heating element.

Possible blower fan failure, Or Blower fan blades are choked with lint, so no blow.
Your gonna need to open it up. If fan blades are choked, simply clean and vacuum them. Reassemble and test run.

If fan blades are clear, (minor lint-ing will not stop it working) then it indicates fan motor is bad.
Possibly a capacitor (motor starter) rather than motor. Usually a small cylindrical object with wires attached, located in close proximity with related motor. Check for swelling, leaking. if looks OK it's likely fine.

Capacitor is cheap to replace first. Must use SAME VALUES as original.

Dryer does not dry clothes but seems to be hot inside when i open the door

Most of these guys get a bad blower wheel. The heat melts the hub causing it to spin free and airflow is reduced. This makes it take fifty forevers to dry a load of clothes. More Here

Mayteg model DE313 clothes dryer that stopped drying clothes.

That is a very accurate assessment of the problem. Check the element for continuity between its two contacts. If there is none, replace it. If there is, look for a fuse on the side with two wires going to it. Test it for continuity. If there is none, replace it.

I repaired my broken fan belt with a drop of super glue - there is virtually no load on the belt and it now works perfectly again. A 30 sec quick fix.
