My gaRMIN NUVI 200 lost it's maps information. How do I recover the information. thanks

You can try contacting Garmin and seeing if they will allow you to download the map again. The file that you are looking for on the Nuvi's flash drive is "gmapprom.img". It should be within the Garmin directory on your Nuvi (using PC to Nuvi USB cable). The file will be very large, around 1GB. More information on missing maps can be found here:

I want to delete maps from my Garmin Nuvi 1450 LMT to make room for different country maps. How would I do this? I have been looking for answers online and in manual for hours now with no luck. Please...

    • 1 Remove the SD card from the Garmin GPS.
    • 2 Insert SD card into your computer's card reader.
    • 3 Open the "My Computer" in either the desktop or the start button.
    • 4 Double click the SD card folder to open it.
    • 5 Hold "Ctrl" on your keyboard and left click on all the map files in the folder. Once they are all highlighted, right click and select "Copy."
    • 6 Go to your desktop, right click and select "Paste." You have created backup copies of the maps in your Garmin GPS. Return to the SD card folder via "My Computer."
    • 7 Select the map file you wish to delete, left click it once and press both "Shift" and "Delete" on your keyboard.
    • 8 Return the SD card into Garmin GPS. Turn it on. Check the screen to see if the right map has been deleted. If any mistakes are made, simply start over from step 1. Replace any map that has been accidentally deleted.

    • OR Insert one end of the USB cable into the USB port on the Garmin. Insert the other end of the cable into the USB port on the computer.
    • 2 Click on the desktop "Start" menu, and chose the "Computer" folder.
  1. 3 Right-click on the Garmin drive folder, and select "Open." Some Garmin GPS devices (e.g., Nuvi 200 through 800 series devices) will have the map files stored here. Browse this folder for maps you want to remove, right-click on the file and select "Delete." If no map files are available, go to step 4.

  • 4 Double-click to open the "Map" folder.
  • 5 Right-click on any map file that you want to remove, and select "Delete."

How do you download a map to the Nuvi 200

Here is what you need to do to update the map your Garmin nuvi 200; first make sure the unit is fully charged, then go to the Garmin web site and register your product. Next download Garmin Updater and connect your nuvi with a USB cable directly to your computer and not thru a USB hub. Let the update go directly to the GPS and not a folder. It will take a few hours even with a fast internet connection. When done follow the instructions on your screen. I have attached a link to the Garmin site. Thanks for using FixYa

    Want to update maps

Yes, you will need to download the webupdater program from Garmin to get new maps for your Nuvi 200. Transfer the files to your SD memory card and then plug that SD card into your Nuvi 200. Click on the link below to get started

I have a nuvi 200 and updated my maps online. Now, It says cannot unlock maps. What do I do?

I googled an answer. I went to "my computer" and double clicked on the device file (mass storage system), there you will see a folder named "Garmin". In this folder look for the file named gmapsupp.img , right click on this file and delete as this file is causing the maps to lock.

I can't get an update on my nuvi gps 200 for maps, even the map of Mexico.

the Nuvi 200 has an extremely small memory, less than 1gb. The US maps for the nuvi 200 only include the lower 48 for that reason. Not sure how large the map file is for Mexico but your only safe option is to contact Garmin direct.

    Garmin Nuvi 200 Maps Disappeared

    Hi,
    Hope this helps!

I wanted to add maps to my 250W. I found the maps I wanted on a Torrent. However, many searches around various forums never revealed how to install these. Found the following through reading and experimentation.

    1. Downoaded map image file GMAPSUPP.IMG. Download also gave me "Use code XXX when generating unlock code for maps"
    2. Downloaded Garmin Unlock Generator 1.3 by JetMouse
    3. Looked on my GPS to find the UnitID
    4. Entered the UnitID into Garmin Unlock Generator. Ignore the GM XT device unlock code and the top Generate button.
    5. Selected Map Product as Custom and entered the code given for the downloaded image file.
    6. Hit the bottom create button to generate a 25 digit code.
    7. Download Img2Gps and run
    8. Click Load Folder to load the image file. Select the tick next to it.
    9. Check the Use Unlock Key option and paste the 25 digit code in.
    10. Load a blank SD card into your Garmin
    11. Connect the Garmin to your PC using a USB cable. You should see two dirves in windows: one is the Garmin and the other is the "Removable Disk" SD card.
    12. Create a folder called "Garmin" on the SD card
    13. Select Folder/Card in Img2GPS
    14. Click "Copy Maps". Select the folder /Garmin on the SD card. You may need to click copy again.
    15. Upload will take a while.
    16. You should now see a file GMAPSUPP.IMG on the SD card in the /Garmin directory.
    17. Create a new text file called GMAPSUPP.UNL in the same directory (make sure it does not have a hidden .txt extension).
18 copy the 25 digit unlock key into this file.
    19. Close the file.
    20. Disconnect the Garmin.
    21. On Startup it should load your original maps and the new ones.

Garmin Nuvi 200 2009 Map Update

Here's what worked for me. Nuvi 200 brand new w/2008 trying to upgrade to 2009.
After registering and download the map 2009, I started the install. I go to a point where I was told I needed 37MB more room. I went thru windows explorer and looked in the Nuvi. I went into the language folder and moved all of the languages I didn't need to my hard drive. I then went into the HELP folder of the Nuvi and again removed the all of the languages I did not need. I then went back to the install program and hit retry. All good from there. I hope this helps.

    Garmin map downloading

Teamhs, I am assuming you have the Garmin Nuvi 200w or 200 which comes with a 1GB solid state drive. If so, the problem lies with the fact that the North American map preloaded with the 200 series is already around 910MB plus the help files and additional languages most of us don't use like Russian, Korean, Japanese etc etc that push it past 980MB or so. Now do the math and you'll find that the 37MB update doesn't fit in there, so now you have 2 choices.

1.- You can choose not to update.

2.- You can plug the Nuvi to your PC and explore the Garmin folder and get rid of the Help folder, which will not hinder the operation of the unit but will disable the HELP button when you power up the unit, and you can also remove all the languages you don't use from the Speech and Text folders. I removed all but American English and Spanish along with the help folder and was able to succesfully update my Nuvi. Now whenever I press the Help button in my Nuvi all I get is NO MATCH FOUND, which is no biggie to me. Hope this helps...
