Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer Banging During Spin Cycle

Whirlpool Duet Sport Washer 19 months old. Model WFW8300SW00

Started banging during spin cycle.   At first I thought that it was just an unbalanced load.
But on close inspection I discovered if I rotated the drum so that one at a time, each of the three segments at the back of the drum pointed down. One was loose.
For each attachment point, pull forward at the front of the drum  One position is loose and pulls forward making the banging sound when it drops back. The other two points do not pull forward and  appear firmly attached.
The result is that for every rotation of the drum one attachment point at the back of the drum swings out a bit then bangs back as gravity pulls it in when it is at bottom.
My guess is that the Cross piece assemble part 27 appears not to be attached to the drum with part 26 on
one of the three attachment points.  Not sure about this.
All I have found is a parts schematic I have no service manual.

Perhaps somebody can give me a better answer
since this repair looks like a complete disassembly
if my assumptions are correct.

It sounds like a couple of the other postings in this
list may also be a similar problem.

Any suggestions are most welcome.
Thank you.

I have a similar problem. My drum bangs against the door and I actually see sparks from the friction. It is really scary. It actually brole my handle and locking mechanism. I had a repair guy out and said my drum seemed balanced and ok. After he left the same thing happened and It almost broke the lock agian. I thought that this machine was suppose to hold large loads. I am not happy since I just had my washer and dryer built in to a cabinet. Any clues as to what is causing this?

If the the drum feels loose in any way, there are three possible reasons:
1. The pulley nut has come loose. (easily repairable from the rear)
2. The bearing is bad (part of the rear tub).
3. The spinner has come loose from the basket (what you describe)

In cases 2 and 3, the entire drum/tub assembly will have to be removed, disassembled and repaired/replaced.

Check your owners manual for possible limited warranty. Contact Whirlpool for potential warranty repair concessions for case 3 if not covered under limited warranty.

Drum is loose during Spin and Rinse cycle and banging against side of washer

If it is under warranty, call Whirlpool at 1-866-698-2538. If it is out of warranty, try running the washer with no clothes in it in spin cycle. If it runs fine empty, it may be that when you had clothes in it they were not balanced evenly in the tub. If it runs off balance when empty, then a spring may have broken or come off. Contact an appliance repairman.

Whirlpool Duet Washer Model WFW9400SZ00 bangs only during spin cycle.

Yes you are exactly right, these bearings have failed & are causing the noise very common problem with whirlpool front loaders. very expensive to repair worth while looking into replacing instead of repairing as it will just happen again. The new LG machines are the best in my opinion.

Loud banging noise during rinse

Most noises from a washing machine occur during the rinse or spin cycle. If you hear loud thumping during the spin, the load of clothes may have become unbalanced. Stop the washer and redistribute the clothes, then re-start it. Repeat these steps if necessary. This will solve your problem.
