Question about Tomtom GO 910 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

No battery power

My 910 just started going dead once the power supply from the lighter plug was disconnected. I have powered the unit up on the docking station with the same results. Did the battery suddenly die or is there a fix for this?

Same here, after I picked the preference to turn off after disconnecting from power. Then I unselected it and now it won't turn on at all except on base.

You can set the Battery options from the Preferences Get to the screen which asks if you want o turn off, an dthen accept. The next will ask if unit should be turned off every time power is interrupted. Select NO

We have a 255 and never bothered with charging it except via lighter in vehicle. It seemed to be working fine but then it started to fade out and i left it at that but recently purchased the electrical...

Leave the unit plugged in overnight and then try powering it up. The batter may be so dead that it has to be replaced if it will not charge. Check that the power cord is powering the unit at 12 volts.

N4VMC asks, will dead internal battery prevent 910 from coming on when on external power?

Even with a dead battery it should come on when an external power is supplied. If it doesn't try doing a reset using a straightened paper clip.

Garmin gps 12 wont turn on.

Sorry to hear of the dead units. Are you using the correct power cable with a small hole in the centre of the plug? The GPS 12 is strictly limited to 7 volts only. The accessory cigarette lighter cable for this model has a circuit inside to drop the voltage from 12 to 7. Cannot be fixed. There would have been a plastic peg in the back of the GPS socket to prevent anything but the correct voltage Garmin cable being plugged in. Unfortunately these pegs are easily broken off. Yes, they are a good little unit even though well on in years. The next model up - the 12XL - can accept a wide voltage range and does not have the plastic peg.

All the best, Tony at KiwiGPS.

Check your battery symbol.
On mine, the battery is dead (or mechanically disconneced inside).
You need to reset the unit by pressing the tiny button on the back.
Problem is that when you remove the unit from the charging stand, the dead battery does not allow you to press the reset button. (Pressing the reset button with no battery cannot reset the unit)

IF you could press the reset button while plugged into the charger, you could get you unit working again. But..alas, the design of the unit prohibits you from doing so.

Chances are if you fix the battery problem, you will have a usable unit again.
