Question about Tomtom GO 910 GPS Receiver

1 Answer

No battery power

My 910 just started going dead once the power supply from the lighter plug was disconnected. I have powered the unit up on the docking station with the same results. Did the battery suddenly die or is there a fix for this?

Same here, after I picked the preference to turn off after disconnecting from power. Then I unselected it and now it won't turn on at all except on base.

You can set the Battery options from the Preferences Get to the screen which asks if you want o turn off, an dthen accept. The next will ask if unit should be turned off every time power is interrupted. Select NO

If you can access a battery charger that plugs into the cigar lighter that would give you enough power to operate electric locks. Something similar to this.

Get a 12v power supply. Put a car cigarette lighter attachment on it. Plug it into one if your cig lighter accessory outlets and that my give enough power to your battery to open the hood

TomTom GO 910 won't turn on.

Two possibilities:
- if someone has used the wrong charger, and connected it to a 12V supply, the mainboard may be damaged. In that case, you need a replacement.
- the battery may be discharged. Even if the green light is on, it doesn't necessarily charge up. Try pushing it hard onto the mount for a few minutes, then see if it will turn on.

N4VMC asks, will dead internal battery prevent 910 from coming on when on external power?

Even with a dead battery it should come on when an external power is supplied. If it doesn't try doing a reset using a straightened paper clip.

Charging Black and Decker Simple Start

okay people... this is a long one, but I just did it for two units that were having this problem and it worked both times.
The problem is the unit sat on the shelf and doesn't have enough power to operate its charging cycle.
Take an extension cord and plug in the outlet charger while you also plug it into your cigarette lighter... now attempt to charge it (you will hear the familiar alarm). Now, turn on the LED light... after a short time, turn off the light and the unit will begin to charge regularly. You can then use one of the chargers to finish the job.
By doing this you are providing plenty of power to the battery while the light drains it at a slower rate... kinda forcing the battery to condition/cycle; it's just allowing the battery to take the charge. Hope this helps.

Battery indictes low and turns off

I replaced the battery on my TomTom 910 and still no improvement so eventually sprayed the contacts with switch cleaner. Now, no problem. Probably didn't need to replace the battery.

If you unit is outside guarantee then this is worth trying. Might be as well to detach the battery and all other power supplies until the switch cleaner has dried.

Another possible problem is the rubber gromit which forces the contacts to make contact. You could replace this with a bit of rubber from a pencil.

Hope this helps you.
