This is a very common problem. There are many reasons for this.

1. The canister was tightened with a wrench when re-installling. NEVER tighten a filter housing with a wrench after replacing the filter! Only by HAND! This is the main reason they are so hard to remove.
2. Filters swell in the housing.
3. The housing itself can swell.
4. The pressure relief button does not work properly.
5. Sediment buildup causes back pressure.
6. Sediment gets trapped on the threads from previous filter changes.
7. Off brand filters, especially those made overseas, frequently are not sized according to specs and can cause these problems. It is best to stay with a brand you know and has worked previously.
8. A bad o-ring will cause people to over tighten the canister because of leaks. Inspect and lubricate the o-ring (every filter change) and replace it yearly.

The best way to remove a stubborn filter canister is to shut off the incoming water, bypass the water softener, go to the nearest cold water faucet and let it run until the pressure dies off. Turn off the outlet on filter, hold the pressure relief button down on the housing (to relieve any more pressure) and remove the housing with the "appropriate" filter housing wrench. If it is still hard to remove repeat the process. After removing the canister, clean the head and canister threads with a clean cloth, lubricate them with silicone lube or plumbers water supply lubricant. It also helps to clean the inside of the housing with a 1/2 tsp of bleach, rinse and wipe it out thoroughly. This prevents any introduction of bacteria into the water system, which is also a very common problem and where "smells" can derive from.

Spa filter stuck

The spa filter could be stuck for a couple reasons. If it's a canister type, then its just pressure. Release the pressure valve, pry the cap off, filter comes out.

If it's threaded type of spa filter then the suction over time has just cranked it down, use large channel wrench and turn counter clockwise. Here's link to filter removal. http://www.hottubworks.com/HotTubSpaFilters/LocateFilter.php

What's a canister filter?

The canister filters usually located on the floor below the tank. In canister filtering the water is pumped, at moderate pressure through a filter material. Canister filters are especially useful in aquaria with large or numerous messy eaters that generate a lot of waste. You'll have to clean the filters frequently for it to be effective.

Hyundai Sante Fe 2004 p0446p

P0446 means there is a higher than expected amount of vacuum in the fuel tank when purge is commanded. This can be caused by a canister close valve being stuck closed, but more likely, it is a restricted air inlet filter at/near the charcoal canister.

2000 Ford Expedition My Expedition (4.6L V-9 2WD) has had an intermittent problem of cutting out. The Check Engine light was not coming on - so I figured it is not a misfire. It drove just like it had...

Continuous Memory Diagnostic Trouble Code (DTC) P0446 or P1450 indicates that Self-Test has detected the Evaporative Emission Control System has excessive fuel tank vacuum. Also, a DTC P0446 indicates a vent control malfunction.

Possible causes:

EVAP canister purge outlet tube (EVAP canister purge valve to EVAP canister) blockages or kinks.

EVAP canister tube (fuel tank to EVAP canister) blockages or kinks.

Fuel vapor elbow on EVAP canister contaminated.

Restricted EVAP canister.

Canister vent (CV) solenoid stuck closed (partially or fully).

Plugged or contaminated CV solenoid filter.

EVAP canister purge valve stuck open.

Fuel filler cap stuck closed (no vacuum relief).

VREF circuit open in fuel tank pressure (FTP) sensor.

Damaged FTP sensor. (fuel tank pressure)

Check for kinks or bends in the fuel vapor hoses/tubes (EVAP canister purge outlet tube and EVAP canister tube).

Visually inspect EVAP canister inlet port, CV solenoid filter and canister vent hose assembly for contamination or debris.

Check CV solenoid filter for blockage or contamination.

The common things I've seen are are mud in the canister and the canister vent solenoid being shot or the wiring to the canister vent solenoid being torn off. The resistance of the solenoid should be 48-65 ohms..
Pick up a Chiltons book and will give you a diagram of where exactly you find the canister. They are like $15 at any auto store. Good luck

Hello! Do you have a Check Engine Light on? The charcoal vapor canister filter needs to be replaced...If the filter inside breaks charcoal particles will end up in the gas tank and foul the fuel pump...The filter cost under $10 the canister is $100

Replacing water filter cartridges?

The bottom half of the canister unscrews. These can get stuck fairly tight and you may need some real muscle to get them undone. Looking from the bottom of the canister towards the top it unscrews in the anti-clockwise direction.
Once you get the canister apart it is a simple matter to lift the old filter out, dripping water and scale into a bucket and put a new cartridge in. Generally all domestic undersink units accept a standard 10" cartridge.
Make sure the rubber O-ring is in good condition - give it a wash under the tap with running water. You can use dishwashing detergent but don't put it in the dishwasher or use harsh chemicals. Rinse clean.
And when you tighten the canister, don't over-do it! Firm pressure is enough. The pressure increases over time which is why they can be hard to open.
Depending on your location you should change these filters at least every 12 months.
TIP: To unloosen a stuck canister you can get a plastic wrench from most hardware stores that sell filters for a couple of bucks. Sometimes you can use an auto oil-filter remover and even a leather belt wound around the canister near the top will work too.
If this helps I'd appreciate the rating! Cheers.

Bissell Lift-Off Revolution keeps clogging

Sounds like it is partially clogged. That yellow thing you are talking about, twist it and it should come out, clean or replace the filters, then re-install it. Check the hose and make sure there isn't a clog in it and clean any other filter. One problem with this bagless is the filters will clog up fast and need to be cleaned on a regular basis. Another place a clog happens is in the inlet by the brush roll.

The filter probably needs a darn good clean. If it is clean, wipe the inside of the canister with a clean cloth to get rid of static.
