Any PCI-socket network-card will work. Under $20.
Just "disable" the onboard Ethernet adapter.

The ethernet port seems to have stopped working, I was wondering what would be the best way to fix it in terms of performance and cost?

have you checked in device manager to see if you have any driver problems or if it is definitely a broken port.

The on board ethernet adapters were damaged so i purchased an ethernet card Realtek 10/100/1000 however it gives me internet for all of 30 seconds until i try to access a website then it dies and loses...

There shouldn't be any issues if the network connection worked with the integrated NIC. Maybe you just managed to purchase a defective replacement card. The other possibility is that you didn't disable the onboard network hardware in the computer BIOS settings. There may be some conflicts since the motherboard is trying to address both of them. Make sure the onboard NIC is disabled, and try another PCI card if you still have problems.

Want to disable onboard ethernet port need to know settings for jumpers on motherboard

TriGem 011027 (Lomita)

As far as I know the only jumper settings for this motherboard are very limited. The jumper settings stated on the link above are for clearing CMOS settings and Clearing Bios password.

I would suggest booting into the Bois settings to see if you can disable the on board Ethernet controller there, it should be in I/O devices settings.

Hope this helps, take care

Modem bad on Dell Dimension 2400, Can it be replaced?

Ethernet port or dial up modem?

If it's the built in ethernet port, all you need to do is purchase a PCI ethernet card, disable the one that's built in in the device manager and you're good to go.

Thanks and please take a moment to give this solution a rating of fixya.

Plugged ethernet cable innto laptop from cable modem and nothing

Click Start / Control Panel / Network Connections.

Your Ethernet status should show under LAN or High Speed Internet. It might be disabled, in which case, right click & ENABLE.
