Question about Goodman GMS90703BXA Heater

1 Answer

MY Goodman furnace mdl #GMS80703AN would not come on. Diagnostic lite flashed in threes. I called Installer who instructed me to stick a small wire or other object carefully into hose connection from the small motor to the exhaust manifold. I did so -turned furnace on and it ran OK for hours. Sometime later it quit. I repeated above procedure but no luck. Installer very busy now - not answering the phone last Thursday & Friday. Will probably connect tomorrow (Mon.) but any suggestions as to the problem or possible solution?

This code is for a pressure switch failure. Do not stick anything into the pressure switch or blow into it. Either will damage it. You may however do as your technician suggested and clean the inducer motor port as well as the hose. If this does not fix it, begin inspecting the flu for blockage and make sure there is enough combustion air supplied to the room for combustion to be sustained. If all of this checks out ok, You can use a Ohms meter to check the continuity on the pressure switch. If this is ok you may have a gas pressure problem. Do not attempt to adjust the gas pressure if you are not certified to do so because the gas valve can be damage in the process not to mention the risk of explosion. Good Luck!

I have installed a wood burning furnace and was hoping to run the blower on my goodman gms80703an and thermostat without having to ignight the gas furnace

If I am understanding you correctly, you are just wanting to circulate the air with your gas furnace and heat the air with your wood burning stove. You should be able to set the fan switch to the ON position and leave the heat/cool/off switch in the off position.

Heater does not come on gms80703an

There are too many reasons for this to happen so we would have to narrow it down. The sequence of operation on a Goodman furnace is usually:
1: Inducer draft motor comes on
2: Hot surface ignitor comes on and glows
3: Gas valve opens, lights burners
4: Flame sensor detects flames
5: Blower comes on

If the inducer motor never came on, then you start looking at power to the unit, thermostat issues, or inducer motor issues. Just a few places to start. Hope this helps!

Hello I have a goodman gas furnace

On a call for heat, the 24 volt thermostat2.gif sends a signal to the control module. The control module will indicate a call for heat with a light on the control either blinking or remain solid depending upon model. The inducer (exhaust) blower will purge all gasses from the furnace and pressurize a pressure switch. Once the pressure switch tells the module to continue, the electronic ignition will energize and send 120 volts to the ignitor. The ignitor will glow and you will be able to see it if viewed thru the small inspection port. Once the ignitor gets hot enough, it sends a signal to the module opening up the gas valve (24 volts). Either a pilot will come on or the burner tube will ignite then spread the flame to all burners. Lastly a safety sensor will be looking for a certain temperature within a few seconds and the furnace will continue to operate and the room air blower will turn on in a minute or two.

What could go wrong? The unit will not run if there is no signal from the thermostat (bad thermostat or broken wire), the control module does not sense a signal from the thermostat (bad control), the inducer does not energize (bad motor), the pressure switch does not close (blocked vent piping, bad switch, plugged condensate hose), the ignitor does not energize (bad control, bad ignitor), the gas valve does not open or there is no gas (bad gas valve, broken wire, no gas), the pilot does not lite (dirty pilot), the burner does not lite (bad burner, plugged orifice, not enough combustion air), the flame does not spread to each burner (bad flame spreader, dirty flame spreader, more bad burners), the flame safety sensor does not detect flame (dirty or bad flame spreader, bad flame sensor, broken wire, bad control), or the room air blower does not energize (bad fan motor, bad control).

Most newer furnaces will have a diagnostic center or control built into the control module. You may be able to view it as it is running thru a small viewing port. Some models will require the removal of an access panel prior to finding it. On the reverse of the access panel, there will be a diagnostic chart that will aide you in understanding any error code recorded (usually a blinking light).

Goodman code problem three blinks

Same problem with 1 yr old Goodman. Checked entire exhaust and pressure switch. Inside fan, pressure switch hose clogged with crusty white gunk. Cleaned it & furnace fixed. I have no furnace repair experience, but love to "play MacGyver". Hopefully this could save someone a service call.
