Question about Opcode Musicshop (MSCSHP) for PC, Mac

1 Answer

I had Opcode MusicShop 1.0 and 15 years ago I did a lot of compositions with that program. Now I would like to import the Midi files to Logic but when I tried to open MusicShop (I still have Classic on my Mac) I am asked to enter the serial number which was written on the program disquettes. Unfortunally I cannot find them anymore and those given by Serial Reader don't work. Any solution? Thanks

I have musicshop 1 and have loaded it onto an osx mac with classic. Unfortuantely, even with the right codes it will not run under classic. It opens, appears to be fine, will read the files but then will not play them. in fact it will do nothing with them. Good luck in finding a solution. Only solution I can come up with is get an old mac, load it all, convert files to midi, and transfer them to a modern program.

I have an old Powerbook 560 with Musicshop 1, and also would like to be able to pull the files off to open in modern MIDI software. My Musicshop still works, but VERY slowly (it was a strain on the system even when I used it in the 1990s) and it will take eons to convert each file to a MIDI individually, but I at least I can do some. It's not clear to me, however, how to get the files off the old Mac onto a modern PC; the PC won't read the diskettes, and in my limited knowledge the ports don't easily lend themselves to connections to modern ports.

Oh the joys of being a Musicshop lover. You could try connecting your old powerbook to the internet and email yourself the files. I use an external floppy for my powerbook G4. when it reads the files it tries to open them in quicktime but refuses. however, if you add .midi after the file name it will treat them as a midi and will open them. I don't think another music program would treat them any differently.
Another frustration you will find is that with musicshop if you have multiple arrangements as part of your m/shop document it will treat them all separately and you need to make a midi file for each of them. hope this helps. good luck.

Midi sound does't stop

I don't have any of that gear, but check that an option like "note on/off" is turned on in the MIDI setup menu on the Juno-D. Also check in Logic that it's midi is setup right. Logic could also be receiving sustain pedal MIDI info from the Juno. Anyway, that's all I got.

While using korg m50 editor using usb data cable there is no sound from my lap.the sound is only from my head phone connected to my keyboard directly?

Are you connecting to the laptop and using it as a midi controller? You can record midi notes from the keyboard and send them to your laptop via USB using any midi sequencer program (reason, logic, etc). Create a midi track, select the input of that track as your keyboard, then hit record to play some midi notes. To hear what you record, you have to set the output of the midi track to whatever midi sounds or instrunents you have installed on your laptop.

If you are trying to record the actual audio sound the keyboard makes, use an audio program such as cubase, sonar, audacity, pro-tools, and either mic the keyboard, or connect one of the other audio outputs (1/4" TRS) to an audio input on your DAW, and record an audio track that way (as opposed to a midi track).

You haven't said what kind of computer you have but I will recommend a program called Audacity which is very good. It is freeware. You will need a stereo cable with plugs that match the line out jacks on your keyboard on one end and an 1/8" stereo plug on the other. The 1/8" should go into the line in jack on your computers sound card. Audacity is available here:http://audacity.sourceforge.net/ That is to get you started. If you want notation software, I would recommend Finale which you will have to purchase for a full version. Their website is here:http://www.finalemusic.com/ They have trial versions available. Here is a link to another program that might be good although I haven't tried the program:http://www.techspot.com/downloads/1831-magicscore-school.html If you want to use a program to record the midi output of your keyboard, you will have to use a midi cable from the midi out on your keyboard to a midi to usb adapter to your computer. That is the easiest way if your sound card has no midi in/ out jacks. Here is a good link to info about all that:http://www.indiana.edu/~emusic/etext/MIDI/chapter3_MIDI.shtml Let me know if this helps.

Try moving the PCI sound card to another PCI slot. On standard PC machines the IRQs are limited to 15 and many cards require their own, not a shared one. (start from the lowest going up... Leave the graphics card in the top slot (if PCI as well)
