It could be the power-supply unit.
It could be a "tripped" circuit-breaker in your home, not getting any power to the power-supply.
It could be the motherboard.
It could be the on/off switch.

My screen is black what can i do

You can: try to restart the camera. and if that doesn't work:
plug the camera into your lap top and access its menu. You may have dropped it and split some mother board connections unknowingly, if so the screen probably cant be fixed

How to unlock bios of toshiba portege m500

two options

1. look on the mother board for a small round battery about the size of a nickle, remove it, start pc, after start up shut down, replace battery, start up again... or remove battery, let sit for about 30min, replace battery start pc.

2. look for a small red or yellow toggle switch or button on the mother board, (should say "reset bios") push button, restart pc.

i assume this is a lap top so there will be some disassembly of the unit, not to extreme though, usualy the battery and the switch/button are next to one another and located toward the front of the mother board, and if in lap tops the battery or batteries are in a plastic covering wired to the mother board with a small connector, just unplug connector if you cant find the reset button.

hope that helps

Sounds like the monitor. Do you have another monitor to hook up to the laptop? If so, that will tell you precisely if it's the monitor or video card.

Mother board

If your PC is still in warranty, call the manufacturer for a possible warranty repair.

Otherwise, no offense, but if you are asking this question, you should probably take it back to the shop and let them fix it. You could always get a second opinion from another shop if you suspect foul play. Make sure they back up your personal files from your hard drive, if they decide they must reinstall the operating system.

Laptop won't turn on

If you know someone who has the same laptop, try testing your battery and adapter on that laptop just to make sure that they are working fine. If not, it might be a motherboard issue and replacing a laptop motherboard would cost a lot.

If you have a geek friend, ask him/her to use the multimeter to check that the power supply is delivering the correct voltage to the motherboard.

If you dont, try to get another opinion from another place to check if they say it's the same problem.

Several things you need to check before replacing actual parts.
First, check the connection to the inverter for the lcd. Sometimes the connection can become loose causing a blank lcd but the motherboard is working fine. Next would be to actually replace the inverter if only the lcd does not power on at all. Even if lcd is blank you can see that the lcd is on but no picture in which case your video card could have failed and in many cases requires changing the motherboard because video is integrated into the board. Good luck.

System board

I hate to say your getting scammed but...........

First. Price for service is unreasonable.

Second, Slow boot=new mobo? I am very sceptical about that diagnosis.

A few questions if I may.
Are there more than 6 icons in your system tray?(lower right corner)
Are there any programs in the startup folder? Start/allprograms/startup.
Have you de-fragged the comp in a while?

After that, consider this. Can you get a newer laptop for 700 bucks? OK, not as nice as yours. Isn't it still under warranty?
