Question about Magic Chef Microwave Ovens

Open Question

I have a MCO2212ARB 1.2 CuFt (22") Over the Range Microwave Oven(Black) in my 5th wheel trailer. I was using the microwave where I needed to heat some water add something and then heat some more. The original heating was about one minute. Upon trying to do the additional heating when I pushed the start button it blew the breaker. Needless to say after resetting it the same thing happened and continues to happen. What could be the problem? The microwave is just 3 years old and doesn't get used a lot. SOURCE: Microwave won't heat/Makes buzzing noise.

The symptoms you are describing are typical of a magnetron that has gone bad. Continuing to attempt to use the oven in its current condition can cause further damage. So, I would recommend not using it. Microwave ovens are considered dangerous and repairs should not be attempted by anyone that is not electronic saavy. The High Voltage Network inside the oven has voltage potentials of 14,000 volts and higher. If you feel this is something you wish to attempt, the Magnetron part number is 1156751 and costs approx. $158. Keep in mind, if the magnetron has been arcing and making a burning smell you may have burned the protective coating that lines the walls of the waveguide. If the waveguide is damaged it is not repairable. I do not know if this is a replaceable item on your model microwave. Double check your warranty information and/or owner's manual. In many cases the magnetron is warranted for several years beyond the limited warranty that comes with most appliances. Post back with comments and let me know if you want me to assist you further. In addition, if you provide me with your EXACT model number (located along the door opening) I can narrow down parts a little better. I know this all sounds discouraging, but I do hope I have been able to help you.

SOURCE: Whirlpool microwave, intermittent blower activity, shuts down microwave

Not clear what to explain but would look at the front control switches, commond problem, to see just play with the door open and closing to see what happen's with the fan, it's probroly not making proper contact, the other problem I can thing of is bad thermal heat sensor, there should be two or three of them, you need to know the basic what they do to test them just jump them, and try the unit and see if the problem stop to see witch termal is deffective.

SOURCE: Sharp Covection Oven/Microwave stops after 1min on any setting

This 59-second stop failure is due to a problem in one of the damper-related components, most likely the switch, but it may also be the motor or the damper door.

The damper is a door inside that opens or closes depending on cooking mode. If the controller thinks that the door is not in the right position, it will shut down the cook cycle.

SOURCE: microwave won't heat

Sorry my Clarification Request came out as a single blob of a paragraph.

That's not how I typed it. I never write that way!

So I've pasted it here, but as a solution.

Magnetrons generally should last about 2000 hours, but several factors can shorten that.

If it's not OVER ten years old (from the purchase date or the date on the tag inside the unit) then the magnetron is still under warranty.

From the owner's manual:

"For the second through the tenth year from the date of original purchase

"The magnetron tube, if the magnetron tube fails due to a defect in materials or workmanship. During this nine-year limited warranty, you will be responsible for any labor or in-home service costs.

"For the above limited warranty: To avoid any trip charges, you must take the microwave oven to a
General Electric Customer Care® servicer and pick it up following service. In-home service is also
available, but you must pay for the service technician’s travel costs to your home."

GE Customer Service is here, and you can verify the warranty status and find your nearest authorized servicer.

If you're sure the magnetron's bad, it's still under warranty, and you or a friend are handy, they will send you the magnetron to do it yourself. Call them at 888-239-6832.

Be persistent. You may have to speak with a supervisor.

It does sound like the magnetron overheated and the magnetron's thermostat opened until it cooled down.

An overheating magnetron can be due to:

  • operating oven without cover(s) in place
  • wrong magnetron installed in oven
  • an old or otherwise failing magnetron
  • cracked magnetron magnet
  • improper power line voltage (should be 110-125VAC)
  • foods low in moisture (popcorn & bacon, e.g. - add 1/2 cup of water in rear oven)
  • failed or inoperable cooling fan or hood vent exhaust fan
  • deteriorating foam weatherstripping seals in air ducts or on outside cover
  • blocked air vents (dust, animal nest debris, insufficient free air space behind & around oven, etc.)
  • clogged or greasy charcoal filter or grease filter
  • blocked duct in hood vent exhaust
Since yours is a counter top model, there are less of those factors to worry about.

When you hit Start to microwave, do the inside light, cooling fan, and turntable all come on?

Any unusual noises? Is it louder or quieter than usual?

We have a sound clip of what a microwave should sound like when the cooling fan and high voltage section are operating here.

You can find helpful exploded view diagrams and order parts if needed by entering your full model number from the tag on the oven here.

Let us know what you find out or decide.

SOURCE: my microwave onen is not heating anything

I would suggest that the overheat stat on the magnetron has blown. If you are happy it's a simple thing to do but just make sure you disconnect from the mains before removing the cover and make sure that the High voltage capacitor is discharged. If you are not sure a qualified service tech will be able to fix this for you at little cost.

Hope this helps

I have a GE profile oven/microwave combo appliance. Microwave is 1.4 cuft and needs megatron and transformer. Will those parts for any ge 1.4 cuft microwave work in my microwave?

GE profile is a series, not a model. Look inside the microwave and you will see a sticker with the model number on it. Take that number and look it up online you will find many options for the part for your unit. Why do you need both? typically with GE it is usually the mag and maybe the rectifier. If a transformer goes bad it typically burns up and smells horrible. I mostly find bad mags on GE, the ones they use are not very good. OM75P = junk

How do i replace a fuse on sunbeam microwave

If it does not heat, the magnetron tube died. Not worth repairing unless under warranty. Generally the only fuse is a main fuse. If it blew, the entire microwave would be dead.

Need a replacment microwave oven (black) for a Dometic DOTR12C. It is built in to the RV and has the light and vent screen at the bottom, over the stove. Dimensions H 16 1/2 W 22 Depth 16 5/8 Weight 48#....

Pretty easy to change.Maybe cash and carry would be a little cheaper, or even trying an appliance dealer to see if they can get the same thing. Perhaps contacting manufacturer of microwave directly will help. (www.dometicusa.com) There was some recalls on some of the models. Are you sure it's not just sitting in an opening above the range hood. Most are just 4 screws or so, and out they come from opening above that.
