Tip

Error Code "d" - Microwave does not heat

The microwave could be in "Demo Mode" - Check your owners manual.

In Whirlpool/Kenmore models this is indicated by a lower case "d" on the right side of the display panel.

Most/All function except the magnatron (heat) work in demo mode so you can can learn to use the oven without actually cooking food

To clear "demo mode" press the "kitchen timer" pad and hold for 5 seconds until the "d" clears from the display... you may hear 2 beeps.

Or the microwave could be in "Demo Mode" - Check your owners manual. In...

If the microwave operates normally, but does not heath at all, then it can be the high voltage capacitor, the rectifier diode.or the magnetron.

The diode and capacitors can br tested. The capacitor must be allowed discharge before testing, or you risk to get electrocuted, even if power is off. Capacitors can get discharged by shorting their two contacts.
Replace the magnetron if the checks and all of the high voltage component tests are good, but the unit still does not heat.

All locations, and description of this parts can be located using the diagram here: Counter top.

Parts must be tested to find out what is wrong.

Remember that microwaves are potentially dangerous devices if not repaired properly, the job must be done by a competent person.
A microwave energy leakage test must always be performed when the oven is serviced for any reason.

Regarding parts, your model number did not return any result, contact the seller here to purchase parts. (here in UK).

The microwave turns on but does not heat food. i reset the microwave by unplugging it for 2 minutes. once plugged back in, i reset the clock. i made sure the unit was not in demo mode. it still does not...

A part called the magnetron tube supplies the microwaves which heat your food. It's possible the tube has gone bad. It's also possible that other problems are keeping the proper power from being applied to let the tube work.

Microwave ovens use hazardous voltages WHICH CAN KILL YOU, so troubleshooting is best left to professionals with the tools and experience to work on them safely. If this is a basic counter-top oven, it may be more economical just to replace it. Otherwise let a qualified technician determine what has gone wrong and give an estimate to repair.

GE Microwave DEMO MODE

The owner's manual (which can be downloaded here) doesn't show any demo mode, but it may exist.

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for maybe an hour. Then let us know if the hard reset does not fix it.

We're happy to help you with free advice and we'd appreciate your thoughtful rating of our answer.

Demo Mode

Unplug the microwave for at least 3 minutes, then plug it back in, and BEFORE SETTING THE CLOCK, press and hold power level and start for three seconds. This should flash "demo mode off". Set the clock as normal. Enjoy!

Kenmore Microwave Problem

"d" may mean demo mode.

The first thing to try is a "hard reset". Unplug it from the power line for a few minutes, plug it back in, set the clock, then try again.

Let us know if the hard reset doen't fix it.
