Whirlpool refrigerator ice despenser

I have a whirlpool side by side refrigerator model number GS6SHAXLQ01.
The ice despenser stopped working, but the ice maker works.

I replaced the motor (discontinued part #2198594) with a new motor (replacement part #2188868).

The dispenser still doesn't work. Do you have any idea what's wrong with it?

I have the same situation and was going to replace the motor ... but sounds like that didn't fix the problem? What was the eventual fix?

I have the same problem. How do you know if its the motor or something else. Can the motor be changed fairly easy.

I have a Kenmore 10650593000 with original motor 2198594 for which I order replacement part 2188868. The replacement part did not fit into the cavity occupied by the original part. The only thing I can imagine doing is cutting the wires and trying to extend them. Anyone have advice?

To All With This Same Problem ,

Remove the top freezer door hinge cover ( 1 screw holding it on ) , and disconnect the plug there . This will disconnect the power to the door dispensor .

Using a butter knife or small screwdriver , insert it in the bottom of the dispensor cover between the grill and the cover .
Push down and in wards , to force the bottom of the cover outward , being careful not to break the 2 or 3 built on plastic clips on the cover .
After the lower portion has been disconnected , lift the cover up to disconnect the top clips and then remove the plug on the cover .

The white piece on the dispensor now visible , is the bracket control .
The switch on the right side , is for water , the switch on the left side , is for ice . Usually , the ice switch , has a broken " spear " , which holds the switch in place . The whole bracket control , pt # 2180226 , will have to be replaced . Only 2 or 4 screws hold it on .
This part is easily replaceable by the consumer .
Just be careful when installing the switch , not to break the new " spears " and be sure to reinstall the plastic " spacers " in the same spot on the new bracket .
When reinstalling the dispensor cover , slip the top on first , and just lightly " pop " the bottom back in place .

First check that you are getting 120v at the motor connector. You will need to have someone hold the Door close button and the Ice bucket detect switches closed or tape them depressed. Take the motor out and disconnect the wire harness. Set your volt meter on a/c and put the probes in the third hole from each side of the connector. This is diagrammed on the motor as L1 and N. Now press the Ice dispense lever on the door and you should read ~120VAC. If not the the switch behind the ice dispense lever is bad. If you test at the switch you should see ~120Vac across the two wires at the switch. I took my switch out and took it apart and cleaned the contacts with a small file. fine sand paper will work also. Or just buy a new switch.

OK, here's another solution to icemaker issue. we lost power and ice dispenser motor stopped working after power was restored. apparently the Ice melted, then refroze in the motor. I removed the motor, defrosted it, shook all the water out, then placed motor in the oven with the light on overnight (no oven coil heat just lightbulb) and let it sit outside the oven another 24 hours to make sure its absolutely super dry before connecting power to it. Worked like a charm and it had been out of commission for about 9 months (lol!). I actually bought the motor as I was 100% sure it was dead, its going back tomorrow. yee ha!

Not despensing ice

Make sure the ice bin is pushed all the way in position. Also make sure you don't have a big clump of frozen ice blocking the auger and keeping it from working.

It is a good idea once in a while to take the ice bin out and completely wash and clean it out real good.

Ice despenser had a spring fall out and another black piece that looks like a roller but i do not know how to get to the inside the despenser to put the parts back . The ice will come out but will not stop...

You will have to disassemble the dispenser assembly and see what is broken to allow these parts to fall out. use your model number in the following link for a picture and parts list. Then search the part number on ebay. I have found many parts for half or less than retail that are new.

Sounds like the optics are bad part # 4389102 this model(if we have the right model#)has two optics boards one receiver one emitter on either side of the door opening which shoot a beam from one to the other through the opening in each side of the bin,as long as nothing blocks that beam and the freezer is cold enough to chill the thermostat to temp in the icemaker, then it should be dumping ice.

Ice and water stopped dispensing

some models of this refrig have a lcok out feature on the dispenser look for a padlock symbol on the dispenser console and make sure its unlocked. if it s not locked out you may have a broken switch bracket behind the console cover. when you press the levers listen very closely and you should hear a click noise letting you know the dispenser switch has activated. Let me know if you have any further questions thanks Peyton

My ice maker is not working...

It sounds like the piece that holds the little ice door in place with a pin. If this is broken the only way to fix it is with a kit that Whirlpool has released. The part number for it is 8201756 and most appliance parts stores will have it. It contains a metal bracket that replaces the tabs as well as a new door assembly and instructions on how to install it. Hope this helps!

do you hear the little click of the switch when you push the paddle?? Its likely that the microswitch had broken from its plastic mounts. Pretty common on this refrig. ill need the model # to be sure what kind it is.
