Question about Symbol LS 9208: LS9208-SR10001NSWW Handheld Barcode Scanner

2 Answers

LS9208 SR10001NSWW It was working last season, now they beep 4 times after scan and do not scan data in the text area. I loaded 123scan software and the two can not be detected. i defaulted it and after I scan the wedge barcode for IBM compatable it goes back to 4 beeps. last time i used them, they were working on the same computers.

The units can use USB, but in this case, they use the PS2 wedge cables. When i try using the USB cable, it does give me a reponse that the device has had a malfunction. everytime I scan when the USB is used i can hear the PC toggle in and out like the USB was un pligged and plugged in. So there is a communication issue. I think this is in the Flash ram, but both units doin the same thing... Kind of odd. maybe Microsoft update. I would upgrade the software, but I could not find anthing to suggest that I could and again - not connection to even flash it.

    What are your thoughts?

The LS908-SR10001NSWW is not communicating with the PC through either cable. The scanner can use two cables, a usb or a PS/2. I have four units and they all were working. Now a few months later, 2 are not communicating. when I scan they beep 4 times. i tried using the barcode that resets the devices, and It seemed to make some change, because I did not get the 4 beeps, ut i still don't get the data sent to the PC. When I scan the barcode for the wedge cables for the PC compatable host (the standard computer) It does the 4 beeps again. There must be a special combination, or another way to flash the units. I hope I have provided enough information.

that did not stop the 4 beeps. I think it didn't work because the barcode that you had me scan was for a successful scan and this is an indicator of a communiation problem.

I need toknow what order to scan scan bars to reprogram. I bouht a new one and hooke it to the pc with a USB and it worked. When I scanned it to program usb cable, it now does the same thing the others are doing. So the machines are fine. That is the good news. I need to know what to scan to get them working again. I have compatable PC's, keyboard Wedge cable, and I want the scanners to enter an eter after the scan.

Hi.

4 beeps is communication error.

First try scanning the "Ignore Decode LED" barcode in manual. That can Fix the four beeps. I quote from Motorola:

ecoded scanners that can be used in "un-decoded" scanner emulation mode will have a bar code in their Product Reference Guide called "Ignore Decode LED." Scanning this bar code may eliminate the error beeps after a good decode, but is not a guaranteed solution.

As said, 4 beeps is communication issue with the computer or cash register. It is one year that you do not use the scanners with this computer. If the solution above does not work, then the scanner must be configured again.

Here the manual, barcode should be at page 62 (se.4-10)

Regards.

Ginko.

    Hi.

I know, the 4 long beeps is communication error, but it is triggered by the Ignore decode LED being off. It is explained in different Motorola support pages like this one.

If that did not work, then you need to reset the scanner to factory with the barcode at page 4-5, then you need to re-program the host settings from scrap, following procedure in chapter 5. You can also try programming host first. When there is communication error usually the host must be re-programmed.

Note:if the scanner emits 4 shorts beeps when connected to USB, that is config. error-scanner not ready, that means either problems with USB or faulty scanner.

Ok, what may have happened is that the USB layer may have become corrupted and all that is needed is a refreshing of the USB layer and drivers. here is what to do.
Remove and reinstall all USB controllers To remove and reinstall all USB controllers, follow these steps: Click Start, click Run, type sysdm.cpl in the Open box, and then click OK. Click the Hardware tab. Click the Device Manager button. Expand Universal Serial Bus controllers. Right-click every device under the Universal Serial Bus controllers node, and then click Uninstall to remove them one at a time. Now remove, (Add/Remove software) ALL software to do with your Scanner, everything. Restart the computer, and then reinstall the USB drivers and software for the Scanner, DO NOT plug the unit into the USB port yet. After the drivers and software are installed, reboot, then and only then (Or unless you are requested to during the scanner install) plug in the USB scanner. After this is all installed, install any "Other" USB drivers and Software, and then plug in any "Other" removable USB devices, Then Reboot, leaving everything now used plugged in, and then test to make sure that the issue is resolved.
If you don't have success then you will have to try them on another PC, to see if they actually work?
You didn't say what Operating System you are trying to install on? If Vista, Win7 etc, try installing as Administrator, and set compatibility mode for XP SP2....then install...

I need to strip the last character from the barcode when scanned with a Symbol P370 scanner. Is there a procedure for that?

If the barcode is a UPC-A or UPC-E you would scan the Do Not Transmit UPC-A or UPC-E Check Digit barcode from the P370 Product Reference Guide.

If the barcode is something other than a UPC-A or UPC-E the last character can be stripped using Advanced Data Formatting which would require the use of 123Scan. You can download 123Scan from support.symbol.com.

The P370 is NOT supported by the newer 123Scan2.

I have a barcode scanner Symbol S/N M1J82M51E. When scanning the item barcode it makes very low volume. How to increase the bipping scanning volume for the Symbol Scanner?

1. Press and hold the trigger for an extended period of time (approximately 5 seconds). The scanner cycles through three settings (Low, Medium, High) emitting a 2-beep tone at each setting.
2. To select a particular setting, release the trigger after you hear the desired 2-beep tone.

Symbol Model LS 9208, Bar code Scanner loaded factory setting, its scans(beeps) but does not display /show in the notepad.

If the scanner is connected through USB connection, the barcode should appear in the Notepad. If you use the Serial connection RS232, the Barcode data are showed than in Hyperterminal or other application, which is interpreting data from Serial Port.
Please scan the barcode from Product Guide according to your connection. And check the scanned data in an application - Notepad for Keyboard Wedge or USB, Hyperterminal for RS232.

LS2208 beeps to ignolage the scan but puts no information

I don't know if this applies to the LS22208.

Symbol Support FAQ says;

A slow continuous flashing LED on the LS9208 indicates that the LS9208 has been put into “programming mode” and is ready to scan programming bar codes. Once the LS9208 is correctly programmed, the LED should stop flashing and remain on, indicating that the scanner is ready for use.

A fast, continuously flashing LED on the LS9208 indicates an internal problem. When the LED is in this state, the LS9208 laser is also shut off for regulatory reasons.

We support these for some big retailers. When they call with that issue 99/100 it's reseat the cable from the base of the scanner (or the system if accesible), no re-programming).

P370 WILL NOT connect with your terminal or base, so forget about this intent and go for the goal which is loading your programming to your scanner. According to Motorola the work around is simple and faster than trying to resolve this.
Start with Reseting the scanner completly back to Defaults.
In the 123Scan, PRINT Barcodes and the rules ADF Rules of your programming.
Start scanning from
"Parameter Settings" until the last page barcode "Reset Scanner".
That is it. Problem solved.
You will need to do this for every new programming Rule.
