Acer Extensa 5420-5687 Notebook Logo
Anonymous Posted on Nov 15, 2010

I have tried several times to reformat my hard drive on my acer notebook. The operating system is windows vista. Acer sent me a package that contained three disks. The system disk, and the two restore disks. I am able to go through all of the disks without any problems. The difficulty that I am having is when I get to the last disk the computer continues to ask for the second back up disk ,or the restore disk. I have tried to get rid of this by placing the disks back in the drive, but nothing seems to work. I have even tried to resolve this problem by starting the whole process over. Nothing seems to work, please help!!

Hi and welcome to FixYa!

If you are tired of using recovery discs and having to deal with that whole issue, there is another way to factory restore your computer.

The first thing you need to do is save all of your pictures and files that you have on your computer to your email or upload them to another account that stores them. When you factory reset an Acer, it wipes it clean of everything you have downloaded on it.

Turn your computer off.
Restart your computer.
When the Acer screen comes up, press and hold Alt+F10.
Keep pressing F10 repeatedly while keeping the Alt button pressed down.
If computer starts up normally, repeat these steps until you are asked to reset
You will be asked how you want to reset your computer.
Press Factory Restore.
This may take up to an hour.

If you are asked to enter a pass code, enter your pass code or 000000.

Hit okay.

Remember, this may take a few attempts, but this does work for Acers! You may choose to not restore it to factory and restore it to a previous date when you were not having issues. Keep those options in mind.

After upgrading from Windows Vista to Windows 7 and reformatting my hard drive, my built-in microphone no longer functions at all. It can be adjusted, but does not actually pick up any sound. It seems to...

Well the first thing that you have to keep in mind before reformatting your hard drive is to ensure the backups of all driver devices on your laptop. Since you already reformatted, the best way is to look up the correct drivers for the Acer Aspire. I would start looking at the Acer site. Go to this site and scroll down to the audio driver. http://www.laptop-software.com/acer-software/acer-aspire-8730-notebook-windows-7-drivers/

Where can i buy a recovery CD for my Acer Extensa

This recovery process helps you restore the C: drive with the original software
content that is installed when you purchase your notebook. Follow the steps
below to rebuild your C: drive. (Your C: drive will be reformatted and all data
will be erased.) It is important to back up all data files before using this option.
Before performing a restore operation, please check the BIOS settings.
1 Check to see if Acer disk-to-disk recovery is enabled or not.
2 Make sure the D2D Recovery setting in Main is Enabled.
3 Exit the BIOS utility and save changes. The system will reboot.
Note: To activate the BIOS utility, press <F2> during POST.

To start the recovery process:
1 Restart the system.
2 While the Acer logo is showing, press <Alt> + <F10> at the same time to
enter the recovery process.
3 Refer to the onscreen instructions to perform system recovery.
Important! This feature occupies 10 GB in a hidden partition on
your hard disk.

Acer ASPIRE 6530

You cannot uninstall Windows Vista, but you can reinstall your previous operating system, which then replaces Windows Vista. To reinstall your old operating system, you must have the original installation disc. Back up your programs and files, insert the installation disc into your computer, and then reinstall the old operating system. To regain the hard disk space used by Windows Vista, reformat the disk during the reinstallation process. After reinstalling your previous operating system, reinstall your programs and files.

You may want to consider upgrading rather than downgrading.

Acer laptop, hard drive interface

acers have had that problem before, their motherboards are out of date and seem to be having problems, there was recently a recall on the acer laptops as well, you could contact the manufacture adn request a full refun on your computer, take that money. your best bet for getting a a pc that is cheap and works very well with no recalls or problems would be dell or toshiba.
