Question about Fujitsu LifeBook A3110 Notebook

1 Answer

Fujitsu Lifebook A3110 won't boot from Vista DVD but will boot from Windows 2000 CD. The boot order is set correctly in the BIOS. When I insert either a Windows XP boot disk or a Windows Vista boot disk it won't boot. I have tried both of these OS boot disks on other computers and they work fine. The Windows 2000 boot disk works with no problem. I've flashed the BIOS and even replaced the drive. Same issue remains.

Thanks for your speedy reply. I don't have a USB drive that big at the moment. I would have to go purchase one. On a separate note I was able to load my Vista OS using a friends external USB drive so at least I got that far. The problem I'm faced with now is I have an extra optical drive I paid $50 for and I don't know if it's a bad drive or not. It just seems weird I can watch a movie from a DVD on it but it won't boot from a DVD but it boots from the Windows 2000 CD. I also tried putting in a DVD which I burned Windows AIK to and it won't read that either. Is there any possibility there is something in the laptop BIOS that won't recognize bootable DVDs even though it recognizes a regular movie DVD?

Constantly boots up windows error recovery, does not boot up from recovery disk just reloads same error problem, changed all settings to try and boot up from disk still doesn't do it. Tried BIOS settings and diagnostics but they don't provide much help. Any suggestions would be great! Worked fine until laptop cut out earlier and now wont load

Can you get the machine to boot up from a USB stick? create a bootable usb stick with instructions below and transfer everything from the DVD to the stick. you need around 4GB stick.

On another machine, open the cmd.exe or command prompt with administrator rights.

In the prompt write diskpart and hit enter.
Then type list disk, note the disk number of the flash drive.
lets say your pendrive is disk 3 (replace it with your own number)
Then enter the following commands in diskpart and hit enter
Select Disk 3
Clean
create partition primary
select partition 1
active
format fs=ntfs
assign
exit

Next insert your windows disc in the drive, find out what is the drive letter of your dvd drive and what is the drive letter of your usb stick then go back to the command prompt
Enter the drive letter of your dvd drive and hit enter like this for example if it was D drive then below (and don't forget" : " without the quotes)
D:
Next enter CD BOOT
write bootsect.exe /nt60 F: ((Where the F is your USB Sticks Drive letter))
Copy the DVD content into the usb stick by using the normal explorer, no need to do that on the command prompt.
Change your laptops boot order so it boots from USB-HDD or USB-XXX (replace XXX with any other available usb option...) Hopefully this does it.

If the drive plays DVD's and CD's its fine.

But I'll check with a colleague that works at Fujitsu repair and see what he says about it.

I can't reach him right now, I'll probably hear from him tomorrow.

will get back to you as soon as I hear anything.

I remember we used to install these fujitsu machines off usb sticks, but it probably was mainly due to not having a vista dvd's around.

The friend is a friend of a friend, I heard he hasn't worked for Fujitsu in almost a year now, and he might not remember anymore.

I'm pretty sure your both drives are OK.

Will get back to you when I hear something from him.

How do i use recovery cd's if i have no cd rom drive? i have an external cd/dvd drive plugged into usb port but the fujitsu 1510d lifebook does not recognise it? thanks dave

When you boot your computer, start up your BIOS, then under the boot menu, make sure USB is listed as the 1st option.

To log into your BIOS, press the "Boot Option" key. It might be F1, F2 or Delete

You should go to the BIOS. Make a note of the boot order. Set the first boot device to cdrom.
Once you see a prompt that says press any key to contintue to boot to cd press the Enter Key Once
When you have a prompt that says welcome to windows press R to Repair press F3 to quit and press Enter to create a fresh new copy of windows.

Follow any prompts as required and when you have finished don't forget to change the BIOS boot order, back to as it was.

There you have it, a fresh operating system. All it may need now is the drivers installing and the software re installing.

I hope this is the information that you require.

Fujitsu Lifebook N6470 will not boot

Most times these kinda errors are issue with some kinda corrupted driver. Have you tired to boot in to safe mode. To do so shut down the laptop and when you press power to turn it on start tapping F8 key until advanced windows start up shows up.If you cant i would consider taking it back to store where you got it since pressing this button is not supposed to do anything. Most new computers come with Operating System reinstall built in which kinda sucks since some times you just cant get to it like in your case. Restore disk shoud work and you can try making Bios settings back to original since Vista will boot to the CD/DVD drive if it detects media. If this does not work i would not spend too much time on it and would replace it or have it fixed if you have extended warranty. I would also be very careful about posting Product key on any web sites. Hope this helps.

My Lifebook C2340 won't recognize it's own DVD-ROM. When I set the CD in the BIOS, it goes back to "None". It doesn't show up in My Computer. I've cleaned the contacts and tried another DVD. Still won't...

Does it show the device in the BIOS? If not then there could be a problem with the motherboard hardware. If it is not showing up in the BIOS then I would first verify that the power connector for the drive has voltage. Also verify that the slave/master jumpers are correct if the drive has any. You could also try downloading the BIOS update from Fujitsu and see if after updating the BIOS it brings the cd-rom drive detection back. If the BIOS is seeing the drive but Windows is not then the problem could be with the Windows drivers or installation. You could try going into the control panel for windows and use the "detect new hardware function" and see if Windows detects the drive.

I have a Fujitsu Lifebook P-2040 that I just reformatted. I'm going to install Windows 2K Professional (don't have the restore disks for XP Home). After I reformatted and restarted, nothing happens. There...

Is there any reason for your preference for Win 2K over Win XP Pro? XP Pro would be a better choice over Win 2K.

You may be able to selecting the CD as the alternate boot device by pressing F12 as the laptop is booting up.
I am not familar with BIOS key on your laptop but you can try these keys on a cold boot up (don't use a warm boot up - Ctrl+Alt+Del keys). Try:-
Del
F1
F2
F10
Ctrl+F1 or F2
Alt+F1 or F2
Esc+F1 or F2
Once you get into the BIOS you can change the boot order, set the CD as the first device. You should be able install Windows from the CD.

If these keys don't work go to the Fujitsu WEB site to download the manual, whilst you are there you will also need to download the drivers for your model laptop the Windows version of the devices that are installed on your laptop eg. audio, video, modem, LAN etc. These need to be installed after the Windows installation.
