SOURCE: Monitors wont work

It appears that you have a faulty graphics card.
If the graphics card is integrated with the motherboard then it cannot be repaired. Just purchase a new AGP graphics card, insert it into the AGP slot and connect your monitor to this card.
You may need to go to the BIOS setup to disable the on-board graphics card.
If you don't have an integrated graphics card, then buy a replacement graphics card.
You will need to install the new graphics drivers after installing the graphics card.

SOURCE: BAD MOTHERBOARD ECS MCP61P-AM Motherboard

You can. Just make sure it's compatible with the same processor, RAM etc...or it may cost you more in the long run.
You can bring that spec into the local computer store, ask them to just either replace or upgrade...make sure you tell them you'd like to use the same processor, RAM etc.
I hope that helps.

SOURCE: gateway computer 310 series wont power up when

It sounds to me like the power switch is plugged into the motherboard incorrectly. I would need to know the type of motherboard you have to get you the proper schematic for hooking up the power switch and reset switch to the board. If you have the manual to the motherboard, there should be a detailed picture showing you how it is to be hooked up. Please let me know the motherboard model for further assistance.

Good Luck,

SOURCE: hooking power supply back to

Let me look around for you.

The plastic front of the computer is the Front Panel. The area of pins on the motherboard that the wires from the Front Panel attach to, is the Front Panel header.
Sometimes there are two Front Panel headers.

This information may be tough to find.
What is needed is the manufacturer name and model number, off of the motherboard.

There were several different motherboard manufacturers used, and several different variations.

I'm going to post two links that may help you with identifying the motherboard manufacturer, and model number.

Look in the middle of the motherboard, around the edges, and in-between any expansion slots on the motherboard, for identifying nomenclature.

http://www.pcpartsohio.com/gateway.aspx?c=2&s=91

Going further, there is a motherboard chipset on the motherboard.
The motherboard chipset consists of the Northbridge chip, and the Southbridge chip.

The Northbridge chip will be covered with an aluminum finned Heatsink. It's identifying model number/letters will be covered.

The Southbridge chip usually does not have a Heatsink. It's model number/letters will be easily identifiable.

The Northbridge chip and Southbridge chip are installed in a mated pair.
A specific Southbridge chip will be used with a specific Northbridge chip.

This means that identifying what Southbridge chip is used will lead us to what Northbridge chip is used, without removing the Heatsink off of the Northbridge chip.

This shows you a motherboard diagram, detailing how the motherboard chipset is connected to the rest of the motherboard,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Motherboard_diagram.svg

This general example of an average motherboard shows you the Northbridge chip, and Southbridge chip,

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:MicroATX_Motherboard_with_AMD_Athlon_Processor_2_Digon3.jpg

Looking in the middle of the motherboard you will note a bl;ack square Heatsink that looks like a meat tenderizer.
This is the Heatsink over the Northbridge chip.

To the left of the Northbridge chip, and to the left of the ram memory slots, is the Southbridge chip.
It has VIA on it in white letters.

State any identifying letter/numbers that you see on the motherboard.
Please state in a Comment.

It's a wonder it works at all, you do not have a surge protector? You may have fried the ethernet card. I suppose you could get a wireless access point and a wireless card or wireless USB device for the computer. Are you sure thats all you lost?

I have a Gateway 310 XL H desk top PC. After the storm, Isaac, It won't power on. The red and green lights come on, the red goes off after a short time. The monitor flashes a manfacture logo then

The system is powered up if green light on, the hard disk is powered up if red-light on for a few seconds then goes off, but I assume it's not loading up after that. You have no output to video.

Try holding f2 or f4 to load default bios when turning on. If that doesnt work then That would point to me that there is a problem with either:

1) processor burnt out, or needs refitting following a knock to the case causing a bad connection.

2) ram burnt out or not correctly installed. Try refitting the ram or using a different combination of ram.

3. Bios chip burnt out. Sometimes you can literally see the chip is slightly melted.

4. Other motherboard fault, look for melted chip or damaged component.

5. Psu faulty or not connected properly. Check connections, or bench test with another psu.

Have you moved the pc recently? Sometimes dust builds up under processor or along ram, and when moving pc giving it a slight knock can cause bad connection. If dusty, remove clean and re install.

Hope it helps.

All of these components may be purchased from a computer store. Alternatively search classified ads such as Gumtree and e-bay.

Where is located the sound card for gateway 310 x h computer

Go to http://support.gateway.com/s/PC/310_Series/2800350/2800350rv.shtml

The sound card is part of the motherboard - the three small jacks (pink, yellow (green?) and blue) just below the USB/network ports are for the sound card functions. Pink = Microphone, Yellow (Green) = audio out, Blue = audio in.

There is also an audio out in the front of the computer for headphone output.
