SOURCE: not agitating or spinning

Crokjcc: If your washer fills up and pumps waterout properly, but doesn't spin, it is most likely the "Motor Coupler". This is a plastic and rubber piece that links the motor to the transmission. It is inexpensive to replace, and a fairly easy repair.

A google for "Maytag motor coupler" might get you some more verbose instructions, but here goes.

First, unplug the washer. Getting electrocuted, while entertaining for others, is unpleasant.
Next, Remove the washer cabinet by removing the two screws at the base of the control panel, tilting the control panel up, and unclipping the 2 bronze-gold-looking spring clips. The metal cabinet should be free to pivot towards you and be moved out of the way.

Near the floor at the front of the washer you will see the motor. It is in a "sandwich" with the motor between the transmission and the pump. A number of flat spring clips and a bolt or two hold the sandwich together. Snap the clips off and remove the pump. Another couple of snaps and you should be able to slide the motor out. The broken triangle thing is part of the coupler, and the rest is still stuck on the front shaft of the transmission.

Here is a picture of a coupler. This may or may not be the one for your model, I didn't check.

J_carey, this is probably NOT your issue, since this_usually_ causes it not to spin or agitate. Yours sounds more expensive to fix.. :(

Good luck!

SOURCE: won't empty water slow spin in spin cycle

It spins, but doesn't pump If your washer spins but doesn't pump the water out, the drain line is probably clogged. In many washers, a small sock or other piece of clothing can get between the clothes tub and the outer tub that holds the water. If the clothing gets between the tubs, it may then get into the drain hose that's attached to the pump--or even into the pump itself. If it's in the pump, you need to remove the hoses from the pump and pull the item out.

To remove the sock from the outer tub port, open the washer's main access panel and remove the large-diameter rubber hose that connects the pump to the bottom of the outer tub. Then, using needle-nose pliers, try to grab and remove the clothing through the port.

Sometimes you can't remove the stuck clothing from below. Then you have to remove the agitator, top of the outer drum shield, and inner clothes tub. This isn't easy to do--and you may need special tools--so you might be happier getting a qualified appliance repair technician to do the job.

If the drain line isn't plugged, the problem may be with your pump. Even if the pump appears to be turning, the internal impeller may be broken. If so, you need to replace the pump.
if this helps please vote a fix ya

Whirlpool washer will not cut on or run water into it but still will spin out.

Hello, we're sorry to hear about your Washer. We recommend disconnecting power from the breaker for at least a minute and then turning the breaker back on to do a master reset on the Washer. If you are in need of help after trying the reset, can you please email us your address, phone number, the model and serial number, the website you were contacted on, Fixya, your review ID, and date of purchase to Whirlpool_Digital@whirlpool.com?

Hello.

Whirlpool washers are available in many colors and with different options, including various tub sizes, front or top load styles, a fabric care system, high efficiency wash features and energy, time and water sensors. The washers may be purchased in department stores, home repair stores and online. Many are Energy Star rated. However, the washing machine may malfunction occasionally and not agitate or spin. If this occurs, some troubleshooting steps may be useful in solving the problem.

1 sure the washer has electrical power and is connected to a grounded electrical supply. Replace or reset the circuit breaker or fuse if needed, particularly in event of a recent power outage. Make sure the washer lid is closed tightly before use; the washer won't work if the lid is open.

2 void selecting the following cycles: "Extra Low,, "Low," "No Spin", "Delicate," "Casual/Perm Press" or "Hand Washables." All of these cycles use little to no spinning or agitating during the cycle. Select the highest possible spin cycle for the fabrics being washed.

3 pen the washer lid and redistribute the load; unbalanced loads may cause the washer to stop or slow down. Add additional items if only one large item,
such as a rug or blanket, is in the washer.

4 Use only the recommended amount of laundry detergent, as excess sussing can reduce the overall spin speed or cause the washer to stop agitating. If the Whirlpool washer is a high-efficiency model, use only high-efficiency laundry detergent.

5 Examine the drain hose and straighten if kinked. Remove any possible obstructions and ensure the end of the hose is no more than 96 inches from the floor, as this will cause water to flow back into the washing machine.

Thanks.

Stops in the middle of wash cycle

Hi!

If the cycle doesn't advance, it's probably the timer or a cold-water supply problem:
It's the timer, if your washing machine fills with water and begins agitating, but the timer never advances--or if the washer is in a spin cycle and the timer won't advance. Then you need to replace the timer.
It may be a cold-water supply problem, if the washing machine fills with water, agitates, drains, and spins, but then doesn't fill with rinse water. See There's no cold water.
Please do rate this solution as FixYa and revert for further assistance.

Thanks

    Agitator not turning during cycle

Well, it sounds like you've done your homework. My first suspect would have been the agitator dogs too, but you said they were fine. Another likely suspect would have been the motor coupler, but you said the washer spins during the spin cycle. If the coupler was bad the unit would fill, but wouldn't agitate or spin. Plus, it would make an awful noise. I would have also suspected a clutch assembly, but you said the wash tub can spin. Normally, when the clutch goes bad, the drum won't spin, or spins slow. Another suspect could have been a bad lid switch, but the washer would have filled and stopped, without agitating or spinning. The only remaining suspect that I'm aware of is the gear case (transmission). Checking under the washer can give you some clues. Normally, when a gear case starts to go bad, they leak an amber colored oil. You may find puddles or drips under the washer. If you see no signs of oil the gear case could still be defective, however. But, before you go through all the trouble, double check the agitator one more time. Completely remove it from the tub and check the under side to ensure the grooves that grip the top of the gear case shaft have not been worn smooth. I hope this may have been some help to you.
