Question about Ingersoll Rand - Rand Type - 30 Reciprocating Air Compressor - 7.5 Hp, 230 Volt 3 Phase, Model - 2475N7.5
You cannot rewire a 3 phase motor to a single phase 220.
You need a phase converter
Here is why.
1). You will need to rewire the stator windings from a set of 3 distinct windings to a set of two distinct windings with one winding bigger than the other. The smaller adjunct winding will be a starter winding which is cut in only during the start phase. The magnetic qualities of the housing and the rotor were designed proportionally to the windings that are in there now. Most likely, a rewire job will result in less horse power.
2). You now need to add a centrifugal cutout switch for the adjunct stator winding and hook up a big extra capacitor used to phase shift the single phase incoming power to yield a sort of two phase system. This is so you get a rotating magnetic field in the rotor which is needed to get the rotor started.
I have not even addressed such issues as shaded pole motors and all the other gimmicks needed by single phase motors.
You are heading in the wrong direction.
