Question about LG LHD45EL Dehumidifier

1 Answer

Have LG LHD45EL dehumidifier whose fan locked up one day while I was away. Took motor apart, cleaned and oiled, but still won't run...not sure if it's bad motor, bad PCB, or both!

Unit is~ 5 yrs old. Compressor is fine. Everything appears AOK, except fan won't run!

Oops! Just put this in the wrong space: compressor runs fine. Everything appears AOK, but fan won't run

  • srnett1 Nov 15, 2010

Suggestions on motor testing? I have continuity with two of the leads, but none with the third! Thanks!

  • srnett1 Nov 15, 2010

This is a two-speed motor, with three wires, and I am aware that some motors require multiple connections to run...the wiring diagram shows: common, hi, and lo, so I am guessing that connecting 120 to the common and either of the other two should make it run...I have VOMs and test leads, so I don't need to cob...!!

    Thanks for your response!!

It seems more like a faulty motor than PCB / control board. If control board would be at fault, you wouldn't be able to hear even the compressor running.

Inspect and test the motor. Replace it with a new one and i am pretty sure you would be able to get it fixed.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

    Thanks for your response!!

A quick way to determine whether the fan is faulty or whether the
control board is failing is to put the fan motor on the work bench, make
yourself a power jump cord by using a piece of lamp cord wire and put
an electrical plug on one end and a couple of alligator clips on the
other end. Attach the clips to the motor leads and plug it in. Be
careful because the motor can actually spin if its not fastened down.
You might even do this test with the motor mounted in the dehumidifier
but have the unit unplugged and disconnect the motor leads from the
control board. If this is not something you feel comfortable doing then
you could try making a test cord from a piece of lamp cord wire with a
light socket on one end and alligator clips on the other end. Clip the
leads to the connector from the board that would normally go to the fan.
Plug in your dehumidifier and see if the light shines or not. If you
have a volt meter its even easier. I hope this will help you to pin
point the source of your problem.

Let me know,if needed further assistance.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

How do you check compressor on LG LHD45EL

If you just want to make sure the compressor is running, turn it to the lowest humidity extraction level setting, which is 35%. If the air intake filter is clean, and the water bucket is empty, the compressor should turn ON, in less than a minute.

Hope this helped you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

My LG LHD45EL all of a sudden

Short on refrigerant... or a failed compressor. are most likely or a system problem, causing it to trip off.

There may also be a failed electrical component, you need to check for voltage at the compressor.

cheers

I've had the lg LHD45EL Dehumidifier for about 1.5 years now. I have used it every spring/summer. I turned it on this year and it runs but the water does not collect. Obviously something is wrong any idea...

I found the same thing. I've had my LHD45EL for 2 or 3 years. Worked great for my basement. This year I hear it run, but it doesn't collect water. I cleaned the filter and of course nothing. I took the back cover off, and tried running it. The condenser runs, but the copper tube leading up to the coil doesn't get cold. My guess is that the freon (or whatever refrigerant they are using) has leaked out. There doesn't appear to be any way to recharge it, the original tube has been crimped and soldered. Looks like junking it and buying a new one is the only option unless someone is good with a torch and solder. My question is whether to go LG or not.

Fan will not come on.

The fan has to run if the compressor is running as the fan assists in removing the heat from the condenser coil. Can you spin the fan by hand? If there is full power(120 volts) to the fan and it isn't running then the fan motor is bad. Also, if the fan motor has a run capacitor this could keep the fan from running(if the capacitor is defective) so look for this first.

I have a LG LHD45EL and the compressor works, fins chill but fan won't turn at all. I took it apart and cleaned the armature of the fan, Used a non-contact device to ensure electric is present in the...

let the unit cool down
with power on try sticking something in there to spin the fan blade
if it spins and continues to work it is a bad capacitor (little shiny metal can sometimes oval or round)
if it doesnt spin i would have to guess the motor is bad
hope this helps
