Question about Sport & Outdoor - Others
There are a few things that can cause the belt to stop running. First thing to do is check the lubrication and adjust the tension (get a manual from the manufactures website if you don't have one, it will cover this adjustment). Next, clean the speed sensor wheel with compressed air or a q-tip and apply Paraffin wax under the belt and adjust tension if needed.

The motor is over heating and tripping out....
When your son runs on it he runs differently and helps out the motor so it does not have to work as hard....
The motor is going bad and will need to be replaced...

The problem is, that the electric motor that runs the treadmill is thermally overloading. When you run on the treadmill your weight makes it harder for the motor to turn. When a child runs on the treadmill the motor doesn't have to work near as hard. And won't get hot and shut down.
