Question about Kenmore 13873 Stainless Steel Built-in Dishwasher

1 Answer

My customer has a kenmore dishwasher model# 13833k601. It seems to excessive steam coming from the bottom of unit. It has ruined a wood floor and the walls behind were full of mold. I haven't experienced it personally but she says you can't put your hand underneath because of the heat and steam.

This is NOT normal and should NEVER happen, there must be some sort of leak or the like from under the unit. Steam coming out, is very unusual, as steam is usually NOT generated by the unit, I suspect, that it is more condensation from under the unit that's more likely that any steam damage, as if it was steaming that would suggest that the water is Boiling or at least being heated to a steaming temperature, and water inside the unit, simply isn't heated up to this temperature, the water may be steaming, but it is not steam. well hopefully.. That's of course unless we had a fault that would overheat the water?
One does indeed require an out for all the fumes etc, however mostly all vapors are contained inside, and if there is any evident on the outside then we must suspect a hole or some way for the water to get out the bottom. Sometimes the Overflow tanks, can over fill, and then you can have water coming out indeed, usually though this is fairly evident, but it may have just been a drip drip drip... as they all soon add up...
If the floor has rotted out, then i would also wonder at the inside condition of the machine, and the bottom panel too.. it may have rusted almost right through? it needs to be checked too..
You need to perform a thorough check of the machine to assist i give you a link so you can download your service and repair manual. below.

Dishwasher blows out steam and has ruined wood floor in kitchen have to replace wood floor

The door seals (Gaskets) surrounding the door are not tight. The door adjustment, is dependent on the tilt backward and height adjustment (adjusting levelers) on the corners. If the upper locking tab screwed to the counter tops underside is loose or misaligned, bent, or broken, the door won't close fully and cause the same problems.

Check your seals around the door, if that is where the steam marks are coming from. Rubber can easily be replaced

Steam is leaking from the side of my dishwasher, and ruining my unit

Has steam of this nature been emitted when the unit was first in use ?

It might be that the thermostat is failing/faulty causing the unit to overheat the water. Most dishwashers do not heat the water to a level that would cause excessive steam.

For no apparent reason that I can seem to find, the dishwasher periodically has the bottom full of water. It is not that a cycle was interrupted. It happens between uses. It is clean water and does not...

You seem to have a leaking inlet solenoid valve. It could be a bit of dirt stuck across the seats but it could also be the valve seats that have cracked or worn. Check the valve and replace it if necessary. It is the first component after the inlet pipe.

My Kenmore dishwasher's basin fills up with water by itself!

the problem is the water valve, we had to replace many ruined floors in our hotel because of this, when calcium builds up in the water lines of your house and a chunk breaks free, it sometimes gets in the water valve holding open the diaphram open ever so little, but enough for water to get thru, sometimes it will pass thru, other times it won't. and if you use it everyday you won't notice it, but if it sits for a few days it will fill up and eventually overflow. so either take apart the valve and install a filter or replace the valve.

LG dishwasher is dripping water from vent onto floor

Good that it is working. Recommend you keep a lose eye on the vent on the bottom of the door panel. This model will probably begin leaking again if it has not been retrofit with a kit that LG developed.
Please open a new problem when it starts to leak and please provide the Model and serial number when you do. Good Luck!

Door gasket or sealOver time, door gaskets and seals harden and lose their ability to seal properly. You can't repair the seals. You need to replace them if they've begun to leak.

Water leaking onto floor

unplug it again , sounds like your drain line has frozen, instaead of defrost water going down the tube and under refrig in drain pan, becuse tube is frozen its draining into freezer compartment and eventually spilling out through front of unit. totally defrost unit and behind back wall of freezer youll see a metal trough designed to catch water, in the center (under the ice is gonna be the drain hole, pour boiling water down until it runs freely

Water/steam coming out of top right side.

where you see the steam use electrical tape over that area and see if it stops.it does sound like a seal problem but another thing to check is to make sure the unit is level.
