Question about Husqvarna Designer I

1 Answer

I have a Designer 1 machine and the touch screen appears to be frozen on the NORM screen. I cannot select any options on that screen and cannot go to any other screens. My manual talks about recalibrating, however, it appears that that is done from the SET screen and I cannot get there. Any thoughts on how to cure this problem? The machine has worked perectly until turning it on today. There has been no damage to the machine, I have not dropped it, and I have not tried to do anything since my last use. Help! Thanks!

Good Morning! Nope, the reset didn't work for me. I tried it both unplugged with the on/off switch still on and unplugged with the on/off switch off and the screen is still completely frozen up. I let it sit without power for at least five minutes each time. Any other thoughts? All will be appreciated. Thanks!

This is most likely a digital 'lockup'.It is very common.Unfortunately, makers do not list this solution anywhere.Digital is most anything that can be programmed which covers many different items and also video game consoles.A reset for these items is simply to unplug it for about 5 minutes and plug back in.Some items require as little as 30 seconds, some up to 5 minutes. It should reset itself. If it doesn't,just comment back here and I will get an autolink to your post and reply ASAP.
Good luck,Greg

I went to their site looking to download a manual and there is an update to download. It appears you have mini-discs?Or is it a USB.I think you are probably up to date on those but just bringing it up as I look for a manual to see the options available. They make some strange ways to reset electronics.I will post back soon as I find something.Just wanted to confirm that you're updated. Also, when you do updates,do you have to start them through your machine or does it auto-start if you hook up a USB cable. If it does, you could probably redownload and that would most likely unlock/reset it.

Hi Can u please tell me how to calibrate my Designer 1? Have not done it for a few years and now I've forgotten. Also my touch screen is only partially responding....I'm not getting any response...

Hi Vina, Since you can't get any response to your Menu-Norm-Prog-Rep-Set-or Help on your touch screen but you can get into your stitches, It does sound like you need to re-calibrate your touch screen. Normally you would get into your Set Menu to access your touch screen calibration. But as suggested on another solution. You turn off your Des 1, Holding in the reverse button (bottom left of the eight buttons) and the pivot button (the second one from the bottom of the four buttons) at the same time and turn on your machine. This is the Service menu that pops up (try not to touch anything on this screen, it could really mess things up if you don't know what you are doing) After this screen pops up go over to the eight buttons on the far left of your machine and touch the needle up, needle down button (top right button of the eight) the Calibration Screen will pop up on your touch screen (two plus marks labeled 1 & 2) In your sewing sitting position touch the center of the #1 mark and then the #2 mark. Once you've done that the Service Screen will pop back up. Shut off your Des 1 and restart it normally. Try getting into your different menus- Menu-Norm-Prog Etc. Hopefully that fixed your Calibration issue! ** Note: If the service menu doesn't pop up when trying to hold in these 2 buttons together and turning on your Des 1 the buttons weren't held in properly and you need to turn it off and try it again. Hopefully that helped you out!! Happy Sewing!! Kathy

How do I find out the embroidery time on my Viking Designer 1 sewing machine?

Hi there, If your trying to find out how long it took you to embroider something, You need to go to your touch screen menu- touch Set- then down at the bottom left of this screen and touch More- three (3) times you'll get to where it says Running time:(It's the 3rd Selection) There it will actually show you the total running time (Sewing and Embroidery If you haven't zeroed it out by hitting the zero (0) next to that selection.) You can do this on the touch screen with the embroidery unit on or off. You need to touch the zero (0) to zero out your time before you start an embroidery project. Once you've done this and you've finished an embroidery you can check how long it took by the touch screen menu- Set- touch More 3 times and there you will see how long on the Running time it took to embroider your design. I hope that helped. The total time your machine has ran (Embroidery and Sewing) is kept in Memory on the Service Screen that your Technician gets into when he services your machine. So your not actually wiping out that. The Set menu is just for you to keep track of how long your machine sews or embroiders something pretty much. I hope that helped you out with your question. Happy Sewing!! Kathy

My Designer 1 touch screen is not responding. I know how to calibrate it, but can't do even that until I can select the options on the screen. Is there a way to unlock it?

I have this information from a person who was a Husqvarna Designer expert:

When you just can't get to the menus at all:
Turn the machine off.
Then hold down the "Reverse" and "Pivot" buttons and power it back on.
You now have the setup screen.
Touch the "Needle Down" button and you will see the crosses.

Use a small blunt object like the metal end of the buttonhole foot (the stylus that

came with the machine would be better ) and
touch the centre of the crosses and each will turn green. Then click on
"save".

I have a designer 1 and when i select the option block that I want - i actually have to touch below it a whole block for it to register what I wanted!! Help!! We moved states away from where I bought it.

Do you mean that you can't select a stitch except by touching below that stitch instead of on it? If yes, then you need to re-calibrate your screen. It's easy! You should use your stylus for this, but if you have lost it use the blunt end of a machine needle instead.

Go into your SET menu, hit More twice - or until you see "Color Touch Screen Adjust" (it might depend on what version machine software you have loaded just which screen it is on). Click on this. (Keep touching below and around the button until you get it to respond.) Touch in the CENTER of cross 1 (upper left corner of screen). When the cross changes from black to green, the point is set. Do the same with cross 2 (lower right). Done!

Just be sure to touch ONLY THE CROSSES on that screen, except for OK when you are done.

These machines are computers are just that: COMPUTERS. Nothing to do but have a mechanic ltake a ook at it for possible fix. It is not communicating with the brain since settings are off. There is a manual on ebay for $5.99 that is a three-part CD and I suggest you go on-line and buy it. It will hep with parts, service and how-tos for your D-1. I have it and find it invaluable for fixing my own machines. Hope this helps.

Touch screen not responsive

You need to re-align the touch screen using the following routine:

Accessing Alignment Mode:

cc951d8.jpg
Then you will see a text message something like
"Press + to align"

STOP

Don't touch the "+" in the text message !!!!!

The one you want will be elsewhere on the screen and all on it's own, with no text around it.

Using the non pointed end of a needle, or the spare spool pin (nothing sharp) gently but as accurately as you can, touch the centre of the +

The + will move to several more locations as it organises the height, width and orientation you give by touching the centre of the + as it appears each time.

When it is finished, turn machine off, then on as normal.

If this does not correct the issue, it may well be something else, so please, if you want any more help with this, just post back here, or, drop a line through the "Contact Us" page at www.bargainbox.com.au
