    Can you show me how

  • JOHN BABA Mar 29, 2011

I can,t show you as far as pictures, but I can explain in more detail. Step 1. Take the cover off
the speaker side of the unit. Step 2. Look for a small black round part with a silver ring on 1(one) end of it. It will be labeled D11 on the board, just take a small wire cutter and cut 1(one) end of it. Step 2. Then, with a watt meter, if you have one or can borrow one, set it on 10(ten) or 20(twenty) watt scale and key the mic. Step 3. Then with a plastic screw driver, adjust L12,L13,L14 to the highest point on the meter as you say aaaahhhhh as you are tuning! They are located at the back of radio, also will be labeled on the board. And your done.

Cut wire D 15 and turn up D 34. Then remove wax from the 2 cylinder shaped objects and with a flat head screwdriver turn each one up all the way. They take about 4 turns each. With a wire cutter totally remove A 12 (this is the noise limiter) and then turn DOWN A 3 half way.

Working on a 25ltd classic that was wired backwards and wouldn't power up. I changed diode and it lives again. 10 watts output no modulation.

10 watts is illegal. Modulation circuits didn't fare so well. A lot of components fry when you reverse polarity.

Galaxy949 no mod no variable power but tx ok keys 5 watts

did you try VR-16. How do you know if tx is ok if there is no modulation.Have you put a watt meter to it ,also a modulation meter..I know you put a power meter to it because you said it keys 5 watts. Do all the simple things first then procede to the harder things like diodes resistors and caps. If you have to touch a can don't do it unless you know what the can operates and then only turn it a hair at a time.

Receives very well- other radios can barely hear me-I have a short mag base antenna

The rule is the taller the antenna the better the reception and power output. Of course it is not always convenient to mount a 102" whip.
  • 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna, it is the same output as if you put 11 watts into a 3-foot whip.
  • 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna,, it is the same as if you put 14 watts into a 28-inch antenna.
  • 4 watts into a 102-inch whip antenna, it is the same as if you put 54 watts into a 7.5-inch antenna.

You did not mention the signal on their meter and how close they are. This may be a modulation issue. Wattage increases can go unnoticed volume wise but small modulation increase can make dramatic changes in volume to the receiving radio. Check that your dynamike or mike gain control is turned up clockwies increases it. The radio itself may need the modulation increased internally. If you have a powermike with adjustments on back it may be way to low. Hope this was of some help

Adjust the receive and turn the dead key down to 1.5 watts

Then put a 40 watt modulator in line with a 400 watt amp. You will have an out put of 800 watts to the antenna. Make sure you have an antenna thats rated for it. Francis whip is a good one, Palamar, another good one.

I have a cobra 200 gtl dx and some one make modification on it to get more power and more modulation but i see in my books the modification to raise up on the board in front of my cb tell me to raise up...

you do not do it by resistance. To turn up the radio it is a variable resistor. What you do is connect a watt meter that can read PEAK or PEP watts AND AVERAGE or dead key watts.

First you check it on avg watts. Hook the radio up in line with the watt meter and set it on avg watts. key the radio. Stock is 4 watts. A lot of times when you peak a radio, you lower the dead key.(thats keying with no audio.) This allows you to get more modulation wattage, or swing wattage. If that has been done it will probably do 2 or 3 watts. If it has had the AM power raised in it, it could be more, this is no good. You want your dead key a bit lower.

Now check it on peak. Flip the meter to peak and make an AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH noise into the radio. It should swing to anywhere between 15 and 20 watts.

You adjust the AMC while giving it audio and watching the meter on peak to adjust the modulation. 4 watts is legal modulation.

Tunring up a cobra 150 gtl/dx

Um... What?? This is hooked to a switch? CB radio by FCC regulations is only supposed to have a max of 4 watts total output. If you can flip it to 7 watts dead key, you are doing really good. It won't do much more then that. It sounds like its set up to run on a linear amplifier, which cannot have more then 3 watts dead key transmitting into it.

Dead key, and modulation are different. You may have a meter that only reads dead key, and won't see the modulation. This radio is probably swinging close to 15-20 watts. you need a meter that can read PEP, Peak envelope power. Cheap meters only read AVG, or average power, witch will only show your dead key.

7 watts dead key is really good for that radio.especially since stock only has 4 watts. you cannot get any higher then that without changing finals.

at 3 watt dead key, or 7 watt dead key, your modulation wattage is still swinging much higher.

Also, you will get more swing with a lower dead key any way, which is better if you want it to be loud.

Leave it alone. its probably set just right.

Modulation with my linear

the radio you are trying to fry your amp with is driving the amp to hard. that radio has a toshiba 80 watt final inside the radio you are killing your radio with the dead key at 2 watts it causes the final to overheat and shut down because it is not built to be turned down that much. its best to turn the radio back up and use the radio.

Sound cuts when volume is turned up

check that power amplifier rating(how many watt)must be more than total speaker rating by 20% at least..
exampel:if speakers watts are 100 watt-amplifier watt must be 120 watt.
