I'm purchasing an Olympus 1030 and am trying to figure out what is my best bet for a memory card. I'm looking to be able to store around 400 pictures on top of my internal memory and about an hour or so of video. I'm thinking maybe a 2gb?
My question is......I read that a 2gb memory card will approximately hold up to 400 pictures and an hour of video but is that one or the other? Or can one card hold BOTH the max # of pictures including the max amount of video time?
And more importantly, is there a certain kind of card that I need to get to store my pics and videos with ultimately zero image quality loss? Isn't there only certain kinds of memory cards that will work with my new camera?
Any help, especially suggestions.... is/are welcome and greatly appreciated.

Re: Picking a memory card
Hey Clinton50, The # of picture your camera is able to take is not only dependant on the size of the memory card it is also dependant on the resolution your camera is set to take photographs at. The higher the resolution the more memory it takes to store the images, but the better quality images you will get with your camera. I would set the camera to the highest resolution possible because it is always possible to reduce an images size but you can't ever make them bigger. According to the manufacturer the largest memory card this camera takes is a 2 gb xD card and I would go with that. I hope this helps! Sincerely, Allan Go Ahead. Use Us.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa: Organize edit and share your photos
You can purchase Smartmedia 3.3 memory cards at Nextag.com, Amazon.com and eBay.com amongst others.
Make sure you buy Olympus or make sure you format any other purchased card in the camera.
BTW, you can purchase 128MB cards as well, not only 16 and 32MB.
If the camera is still under warranty I would not recommend to realign the pins in the card slot yourself as you could do further damage. You might want to send the camera to Olympus for evaluation and or repair.
Olympus will charge a flat rate repair fee for this product if beyond the one year factory warranty or the warranty is voided. The cost is $107.85 plus your local sales tax. This covers parts and labor, factory cleaning and diagnostic check, 6 month warranty and the cost of shipping the product back to you is all included in that price.
