You never said WHAT type of telescope you own. ????

However, put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. DO NOT USE the 2 x barlow if you have one.

Practice focusing on a distant object during the day time.

Align the finder to the main scope during the day before using it at night. Use the lowest power (biggest number) eyepiece first.

Problem viewing planets using 25mm eye piece. which eye piece works the best? nextstar 80 slt

The smaller the number on the eyepiece the greater the magnification-- the maximum magnification of any telescope is about 50 times aperture. You scope is about 3 inches -- so 150 power is the maximum usable magnification.

BUT-- only under perfect conditions -- perfect sky-- perfect optics -- perfect eyepieces. Usually 30-40 times aperture is all you will get on a typical night with some turbulence in the atmosphere.

I have a pair of Plastimo military binoculars which have been fine up to now, but suddenly, despite being able to focus using the two eye piece controls, I cannot get anything other than a double image, no...

Hello - I never had Plastimo before but I have had a similar problem with double vision on a very similar looking pair of binoculars.
The eye piece movement just re-aligns eye focus differences , a double image usually means one of the lenses has moved inside the main tube. (usually from a knock/fall etc)
Can you rotate either one of the tubes ? On my pair I had to rotate anti-clockwide and found a prism inside that had slipped after a fall -
Close one eye and try to gauge which side is the best side -- Ray

Just put the eyepiece with the largest number written on it into the focuser. Take the scope outside during the day time and practice focusing on a distant object.

I got a beautiful scope in a estate sale but it seems as the end with the cap is on the wrong side it is right next to the eye piece? Also the elbo for the eye piece is missing can I get one?

The larger end is pointed UP, the diagonal and eyepiece go into the smaller end of the tube. Measure the hole, these come in .965, 1.25 and 2 inch sizes.

Many on line retailers sell these. Here is one retailer:

a diagonal check the size of the hole:

NEVER disassemble an eyepiece. This usually voids the warranty and the optical surfaces inside NEVER get dirty.

Taking pictures without using the eye piece.

The XS does not have the feature of using the display screen for composition/preview of images like the smaller compact digital cameras. You will have to use the eyepiece like a standard SLR.

CELESTRON 127EQ faulty magnification

It won't increase viewing power by hundreds of time but it should be able to show you a close up view of the moon and planets where they look closer (or with the moon, parts of it look closer). When you say it looks further away, something is quite wrong as you know. It sounds like the eye piece is backwards in the mount? Can't imagine what else would make it smaller. Also can't imagine you could even get it in backwards. I have a scope by Meade that is essentially the same Newtonian design. Best of luck.
