Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

The tv will no longer come on. It won't respond to the remote nor to manual attempts. This has not happened suddenly. Over the past several days it has been gradually harder and harder to get the tv to connect. Once it connects, it seems to work fine.

This is a Samsung LCD tv, model code LN40A530P1FXZA. No blinks when it is off, but it used to blink red and play the little "tune" while trying to start up. At first it would no longer respond to the remote. Then it would start up if I unplugged the tv and then waited a few minutes before plugging it back in. Then I could start it by touching the side panel of the tv, but it would take several minutes to connect. Now nothing - it won't start up at all. No smells evident.

Hi,

Kindly mention the make and model of the TV?

When it remains OFF, is there any specific sequence of blinks that you might have observed?

Any smell or any other symptom you might have observed?

Thanks!!

    Thanks for your response!!

It is highly suggestive of faulty power supply board. Samsung are known for these defects. If you have any electronics repair experience, you could open the TV and have a look at the Power supply board. You may find few caps - swelled / bulged / leaked , might have ammonia kind of odor. You need to buy new caps from radioshack or fry's and replace them. You need to do a bit of soldering and you should have multimeter to check the voltage across power supply board.

Check and let me know,so that we could proceed.

    Hope i helped you.

Thanks for using ' Fixya ' and have a nice day!!

Tv does not respond to remote

Assuming it has been working in the past, and not a new or universal remote, my suggestion is to make sure and push the "TV" button on the remote. Since remotes can control several devices, it is easy to accidentally push one of the other buttons, then the TV will not respond.

Please Help! We have LG Plasmas and both TV's when you go to turn it on it clicks on/off and won't come on at all. The red light turns green for a second and goes right back to red???

Hello.
You could have problem with power supply or sustain board.
If problem was developing slowly ( it was taking longer for TV to turn on, sometimes several attempts pushing power button on remote or set) than it is most definitely Power Supply problem that involved bad capacitors. If problem happened suddenly - it could be either or both boards involved.
I would recommend professional to diagnose it. If your TV is smaller than 40" - just forget about it and invest in new one. Repair will not be cost-effective.
Regards.
Russ.

There is no excuse to hold someone's gear hostage for a half-year. I hope for your sake that it was a 'factory authorized' service org.
If is was, contact Sanyo and raise Cain about it; this set seems to have way more problems than is common for the brand.

My Sharp Aquos TV has stopped responding to remote control(s)

Unplugging my TV for 15 seconds (longer actually - at least a minute) made the remote and the satellite TV remote both work again with the TV.  Thanks for the tip!

Remote No Longer Works

It appears the remote sensor in the Television itself has stopped working. If the TV is still under warranty I would try to contact the manufacturer to see what they can do for you. Can you still change channels manually? If so, this is most likely the case.
