Need an In Dash XM Radio Installed on 1997 Honda Prelude

Do I have to buy a new car just to get an XM in dash radio? Can I buy a new XM unit and replace my existing am/fm cassette/tape in dash unit? I didn't like the add-on xm units. Thank you.

What does high end mean? Which XM in dash model can I swap out with my original am/fm cd cassette receiver?

  • dmlippen Jun 19, 2008

Why does the dash need to be taken apart? Do you mean that the XM receiver doesn't fit in the existing opening? Why did I receive 10 copies of the same email answer?

Check the antena.replace it if you can.wires of the other would be short somewhere.
if you have a dual xmp6000 your radio has xm built in. If you bought it new it came with the antenna- all you would have to do is activate it-www.xmradio.com. or call 1-800-967-2346

rate the solution if helped by it.

Hi-

No you don't have to, you can look for one in a surplus electronic shop or look for a brand new one. Have it replace is an option as well but, you have to put up extra money though since this is going to have a lot of work and stuff.... Oh well good luck... and have a nice day dude. Thanks for using fixya!

No you just need to purchase a deck that allows satellite radio passthrough. I think more decks are sirius then xm but i know most companys make them for there decks.

this way you can mount the antenna and hid the converter reciver box under the seat or behind the dash. and control it all from the head unit. You can do it yourself if you just get a wiring harness for a jvc dash unit for your vehicle and it will just be plug and play.

    Thanks,
    Nathan

well to install the new deck inside the dash where the factory stereo was. You will most likely need to open your dash. Its not that big of a deal if you get those recievers in a store they can install it for fairly cheap.

Well...there is an after market for this, but it's a little high end at this point.

the high end, is when the dashboard is pulled off, the installation is completed, and then re installed.

How do i reset the radio for my XM Sirius? How do i remove KDC-BT742U from dash to reset using tools provided? book is just not clear enough on this.

There is no need to pull the radio from the dash to reset. There is a reset button above the aux in put behind the usb door. You will need a paper clip or a tip of a ball point pen. Once reset you will need to reprogram all of your setting (FM stations, clock) as this will wipe out the memory. To remove the radio from the dash will depend on what kind of car its in. Some (Toyota, Niss.) use the factory brackets to mount in the dash. IF this is the case the dash will need to be disassembled. For the kit installs you will need to remove the trim ring around the outside of the face of the radio. Then the keys will be inserted on each side of the radio releasing the clips then the radio can be slid out.

1998 honda civic lx manual , how to remove stereo panel and replace a new one?

Kind of a pain in the ****, but you have to remove the panel under the radio controls ( where the cigarete lighter is) to do this youll also have to remove the console around the shifter, then after thats removed you have to look up under the dash where the radio is, and theres some 10mm bolts you have to remove, after there out u can stick your hand up there and push the radio forward

2008 Hyundai Azera XM radio "not ready"

I had the same problem. My 2008 Hyundai Azera had 37,800 and my wife went over a speed bump the XM radio went off and displayed "Not Ready". I raised the hood, pulled the negative battery cable for about a minute, replaced it and fixed the problem. Only issue is, this happens every couple of days. I'll probably continue to do this till my xm subscription runs out then to heck with it.

NOT READY error message

Try this:
On the fuse panel in the dash is a black jumer not described in the manual or panel cover. It's a quick power disconnect for radio and clock.
Pull it, wait for a brief time, replace it in the original orientation.

XM Loading Problem for Volkswagen

I had the same issue. I called XM multiple time to have the signal resent. I told them I was receiving the preview channels and nothing else. I asked them multiple times if it could be hardware issue and they said no. I took it to the dealer and they ran a test ($98) and determined that the unit had failed. They didn't charge me for the $800 unit, but they did charge me $300 for the installation. Its working fine now.

FINDING A RADIO FOR A SEMI TRUCK

Those measurements are a standard single DIN automotive radio.
You need to find a "XM ready" or "With XM controls" radio and install a separate XM receiver box. For example this would be the in dash deck:  http://www.crutchfield.com/App/Product/Item/Main.aspx?o=p&showAll=N&g=300&i=158XRCA350&tp=5684 And this is the XM receiver: http://www.xm-radio-satellite.com/index.asp?PageAction=VIEWPROD&ProdID=3951
I would suggest finding an in dash receiver that also does HD radio as well as XM.

Xm radio

Egads, I imagine that the electrical system in your car is not properly shielded. You can attempt to locate the unshielded wires and cover them, shield the XM reciever (the interference is most likely within the reviever, not the antenna), or try repositioning the reciever in your car- unless it's in-dash. If it's in-dash, it may be that some of your audio cables aren't properly shielded also.
