Re: sharper image quadra silent air purifier has red...
Have you cleaned the bars lately? I believe that red light means that the bars that collect the junk from the air are at capacity and needed to be wiped down.
If you don't know how to do this, pull them out from the top after having turned the machine off. Get a rag or paper town moist, but not dripping and just wipe the black soot off all visible sides of the metal bars. Lay it aside when done over night for it to dry completely, then re-insert them into the machine. Turn on and hopefully that should take care of it!

I have the same problem as gerardperez7. One of my germicidal light quadras won't turn the light on and doesn't appear to be cleaning the air at all. I even put a new light bulb in it and it doesn't fix the problem.
The trouble began in 2003 when Consumer Reports magazine published a report claiming the expensive air cleaners don't clean air. The magazine later claimed its tests showed that Sharper Image's Ionic Breeze Quadra Silent Air Purifier and four other units also release potentially unhealthy levels of ozone.
Could be a blade replacement needed but Sharper Image recalled the product. Since it was proven in court that it wasn't effectively cleaning the air by Consumer Reports as well as EPA data. As a result of the legal action, Sharper Image filed for Chapter 11.
Here are a few links about it:
Unfortunately Sharper Image has discontinued support on the product line. There was a recall going on with the product but since the company is chapter 11 right now, I don't think it is being honored right now. What happened was Consumer Reports ran a test on ionizers, Sharper Image received a bad score and filed a lawsuit. They lost the suit and had to pay all legal bills causing Sharper Image to reorganize. The EPA has reported that using ionizers in a house or business may be harmful to your health. You can read an article about it on their website. The Consumer Products Safety Commission is going to release a final report on all ionizers by the end of the year. Their decision may discontinue all sales of any ionizers in the United States. This industry should have been regulated years ago just by the EPA data alone and for some reason it has been ignored.
