Hi klb19,
how far are you from the router? have you tried using your sons computer near your area? is your laptop wifi capable?

click start, run and type in "services.msc" without quotes
look for wireless zero configuration and see if the status is started,if not, right click on it and select start,

right click your wireless icon at the lower right corner of your desktop and select view wireless connections. did it work?

let me know if it works. :)

Cannot connect to wireless internet

It sounds like a problem I had. While traveling, my laptop connected with a WIFI network with the same name as my home network. It was my son's. He gave me his password and I entered it on both my machine and my wife's. When I got home I had the same problem. I tried everything including re-installing the WIreless drivers a few times. I could cable connect but every time I tried wireless, it told me to enter a password then came back with "SORRY CHARLIE"
Called my son and he said probably the wireless password was written to my registry and my laptop was telling me to give the password. As my router was expecting a different password it wouldn't connect. The cable connection did not check the registry since it uses a different driver set.
The registry entry for the router password must be deleted. The only way I knew how was to re-install my operating system. This is throwing the baby with the bathwater. I am sure someone out there knows how to find and erase a Register entry.

My son has a DSI xl and we want to get connected to the internet

Cool! To connect your son's DSi XL to the internet, you'll need to use its built-in WiFi card to connect to your home's wireless internet. This is really easy to set up from the settings of the DSi, assuming you have a wireless router or nearby wireless access point.

I have a Xbox 360 Elite with a Xbox 360 Wireless N Networking Adapter attached. Whenever my son plays a game while connected to the home wireless network, no one else in the house can use the Internet...

If other devices can connect once your son is off then it might not be a problem with a router. Try connecting the xbox VIA WI-FI. If the problem persits i would contact your ISP.

My son gave me an older computer and wireless Linksys-G model WRT54GS router. I bought my wife a ipod for christmas and in the setup of the ipod it is asking for a password for the router. My son does not...

Reset the router to default....the default username and password is usually on the bottom of the router..then open a web page on your pc and connect the router with a network cable..type or
Use the generic name and password to logon....once logged in, configure username and password and wifi...once and exit..disconnect and connect router to internet modem...log onto pc and look for your wifi neteork name..cheers

Wireless button (and wireless in general) does not work

ok. unplug your computer and remove the battery. leave it that way for two full minutes. then put the battery back in and plug the computer back in. These steps reset your computer.

now open it up and crack it up using your usual method. It should be fine. if not get back and I will take you through the steps of making it recognize your wireless modem again. hopefully this will not be necessary.

Trying to install router for wireless

If that's hooked to comcast you can only have one computer hooked up to it, and no modems as they block mac address. If you are a Comcast customer there is a workaround. Turn on your wife's wireless if she hasit, if not get her a wireless card USB is easiest. Turn on sharing on that wireless card and you will be able to access the internet through your wifes computer, and not run afoul of your Comcast agreement. Or request an upgrade to a wireless router from Comcast but your rent goes from $3.00 per month to $10.00!
