Question about Nikon FE 35mm SLR Camera

1 Answer

My film advance seems to be stuck. I took the film out of the camera and it still will not move. Does this have anything to do with the battery?

What happens if you press the shutter button? The film advance and the shutter release are linked: you cannot advance the film without firing the shutter, whether there is film loaded or not.

If the battery is dead, you need to set the shutter speed to the M90 or B setting in order to fire the shutter.

No, the only thing that the FE uses the battery for is the light meter and shutter. You can operate it completely without the battery using the M90 and BULB shutter speed settings.
Your film advance problem is a mechanical problem - check for any small objects that may be jammed into the film transport mechanism. If nothing is obviously causing a blockage, then the camera will need to be serviced.

Film advance lever stuck. Changed batteries but can not move the film advance lever.

Hi fmerlin, If you have film in it you may need to remove the film to free up the advance lever. Go into a closet cover under a blanket etc. Also, Walmart and most drug stores have a big change bag that they could do it for you. With film out it still will not advance it will need to go to Nikon.

Cannot take picture, no film advance, new battery

The shutter could be stuck or the mirror could be stuck. (Guessing you have an SLR.)
The film advancing is normal; means it is cocked and ready to go but something is stuck.

Take off the lens and see if anything is keeping the mirrors/shutters from returning.

Is there anything I can do if the inner mechanism is jammed and wont turn/advance the film/allow any pictures to be taken? I took one shot, and then it wouldn't advance- the button on the bottom is stuck...

well i get whats the problem,,, the film is jaming your camera you realy need to pull the film out the only way to do this is to life the center crank handel and turn it and hope it strips the little frame drive holes in the film first before the camera strips?
the problem is caused by the film jamming in the case if you have fully wound it on that is???whate ever that film has got to come out first to get your camera working again ,,,,good luck

Film advance lever.

Do you press the shutter button to release the lever for the next photo? That's how you advance the film from the exposure to light, when first insterting the film.

Film = no light meter

jackson rook,

the speed of the film may be to high if your camera has dx coding contacts in the film chamber. otherwise---- film in camera or not it has no effect on meter operation. move the advance lever to the right slightly and push down on the shutter release button slightly to turn meter on.

It sounds like your camera is having problems advancing your film, which could mean it is jammed inside the camera. The other thing you should check is to see if the battery is weak & doesn't have enough power to advance the film (and thus the beeping). If it is not the battery, then go in a darkroom (completely dark) and take out the film (if you're unable to rewind it inside the camera). Look at the transport rollers (in the back for the camera) and make sure they're clean (sometimes film chips get jammed in there) Let me know if this helps you. Thanks.
