caps are capacitors, little cylinder shaped objects with two wires coming out and are used to store electricity. Wires wont be visible cause they are soldered to the board.

Capacitors are batteries in a way they store electricity until the voltage drops then they discharge thier voltage to keep the power flow even. hope this answers your question

This is a common problem with Polaroid sets. I would check the power supply/inverter board for any capacitors with bulging tops. The typical ones that cause this problem are 10uf 450V caps.

Tip

Info on replacing polaroid caps

All Polaroid flat panel

I have a FLM-3203 32 inch LCD. After reading so many posts on replacing the to 10v caps I decided to do this to mine. After removing the to caps I noticed they were not 10v but 35v. I replaced with the same size and TV works fine! It is not just the FLM-3734B model that has this problem. It is all polaroid flat tv's. I do not believe increasing from a 10v cap to a 25 or 30v cap will increase reliability. I used same size & voltage but increased operating temperture range from 105C - 120C.These high temp caps can be perchased at Newark.com I hope this info helps, any questions send e-mail to prowler21@verizon.net

You need to remove te stand also, you only do thsi if you want to see EVERYTHING inside.
To get to the power supply and main boards, you just need to remove the center cover.

42 " lcd Polaroid ....only

That is more likely to be failing T-CON board or bad connection on the ribbon cable between the LCD panel and the T-CON board.

No Power to LCD Tv

Even if caps do not look blow, they still can be. Check diodes and resistors on power board. Easy fix if you have patience and time. make sure you replace with a higher voltage, but same cap, resistance values.
