Question about Sears Craftsman LiftMaster Chamberlain Garage Door Opener Wireless Keypad Model 976LM Security+

1 Answer

I have a Craftsman garage door opener model 139.53991. I put new batteries in the remotes and re-programmed them. Now however, when the remote is pressed the light flashes but the door does not come down. The same is true of the outside keypad. The premium control console will work if I press and hold it for the door to close. Not sure why the remotes don't work (the lock feature is not on)

If the main light flashes 10 times and the door reverses to the open position it is a door sensor problem. Make sure the sensors are pointed at one another and the small light on each one is lit and not flickering. If you cannot get both lights to come on you have a bad sensor or you may have knocked a wire off when programming the opener.

Have you replaced the battery in your keypad? That should take care of the trick.

On the back panel of the opener itself is a small pushbutton. Press the button and the indicator near it will light. While the indicator is lit, enter the new 4-digit code on your keypad and it will be set. (You are actually programming the receiver with the new code this way. The wireless keypad doesn't store a code.) The programming light goes off on its own.

SOURCE: how to program keypad outside of garage

Don0930's answer is for the wireless keypad most folks have. My 1993 opener has a digit type keypad that is wired to the opener motor. See if yours is. It doesn't run on batteries but has a plug in transformer box to work. If you have one like mine, then you have an indoor button on a plastic box. You can lift the cover off that box, where it says "Sears digital solid state control" (pries off at the seam) and inside you will find a switch, with two positions, one is "program" and one is "operate". Flip it to program, enter your 4 digits, flip it to operate. Should do it. There is a place for a 9v battery under that same cover, it holds your code in a power failure. I think if you have a dead battery, and the unit loses power, it defaults to 1234.

Make sure the battery is good and then locate the smart/learn button on the rear of the motor unit near where all those white wires go. Press and immediately release this button and then walk over to the keypad and key in a 4 digit code and press enter.

SOURCE: Keypad won't work anymore

Lets make sure you are programming it correctly, make sure the battery is new. Press and release the learn button on the motor. Within 30 seconds enter in the 4 digit code followed by the up/down button. The light bulb should flash once. If you can't get it to code in this way you will need to replace the keypad. Thanks BB

Both remotes won't work for Craftsman garage door opener model 139.53672SRT1

You will need to purchase a new remote with the same model number as your old ones. When you get this you will find that you can program the new one with one of the old ones but not the other. Remove the battery from the bad remote and discard it.

Remotes quit working on Craftsman 53975 garage

It sounds like you have a logic board problem. If your remotes work at all it is not a programming problem. You could pull the logic board and check for loose connections especially around the small transformer. 18 years for an opener is very lucky. Their average life is about 1/2 that.

You can't. You need to find which remote works with the keypad and discard the other one after removing the battery. Then you will need to purchase a new remote making sure you get the same model number as you already have. One of your remotes has reverted to an earlier technology and replacement is the only cure. The explanation of this problem is the manufacturers not mine.

Cant get 2 remotes for garage door openers working at same time

You have a remote that has reverted to an earlier technology. The only way out of this is to purchase the same exact model number called for by your opener and go through the programming. You will find the new one will work with one of the old ones. Remove the battery from the one that isn't and drop it in the garbage.
