There is an 1-800 number on the back of your disposable vacuum bag that you can call and get your belt directly from the Kirby Factory.

Is it necessary to take the vacuum cleaner apart to change the belt on a Hoover Wind Tunnel Self Propelled vacuum cleaner, model UI6460-900? If so, how is that done? If not, how do you get the belt on...

To change the belts, make sure the vacuum is not plugged in. Lay it upside down and remove the screws holding the bottom plate on. Remove the bottom plate, pull the brush roll out noting how the belt goes so you will know how to put it back together. Especially how it goes around the idler pulley. Remove both belts, replace both belts, install the V belt onto the transmission first then around the brush roll and put the brush roll in place. Install the flat belt around the motor shaft and then onto the transmission pulley.

I have a dyson dc14 that needs a new brush bar which I now have how do I get the old one off?

Hi there SmartAlec from NelsonVacuums.com.au here. There are 2 ways to get the brush out from the dc114 dyson.
1. The easy way get a brush removal tool from ebay which is like a bridge that goes over the brush with a hook that you grab the belt and then lift it into an arm so it moves out of the way. This then allows the brush to be slid out and the new one slid back in. Then all you do is drop the belt off the arm back onto the brush and viola done.
2. The hard way. Basically the belt has to be lifted off the brush by any means available, usually a screwdriver will work well. Once the belt is up you kind of wiggle the brush out and put the new brush in. NOTE there is very good chance that if you are not careful you WILL damage the soft plastic around that area. Hence be Very careful as bent or split plastic will lead to a different and more expensive problem.
As long as you are careful this way is fine i have done it about 50 times before i realised there was a tool i could buy. I will admit that once i did need to replace an extra part due to rushing.
Hope this is accurate enough.
Happy vacuuming
Regards Alec

Belt tensioner overheated and doesn't keep belt tight enough

Looking at the owner manual, there is no tensioner assembly.
If the motor is fixed in place and not loose, then you either have the wrong belt, or the brush roller is not properly installed, or the brush roller is worn out where the belt goes around the brush roller.

Anyone know why my Bissell Proheat 2X Turbo Model 9300's brushes won't turn anymore

If the Brushes don't rotate, & you have two brushes; 1). Turn unit on side. ( Make sure unit is up-pluged) 2). Rotate the front brush roller, if the second roller moves at same time, 3). Locate a small ribbed belt that goes from the further back roller, to a small ribbed pully. (Gates belt #177-3m5) ( on side under a clear cover) The belt may not be broken, but may have carpet fuzz / lint covering the belt ribs, causing the belt to slip. If that belt is OK and you find that the small pully doesn't turn the belt/rollers, the problem is with a small internal direct drive motor, that drives the brush rollers. At this point return the unit, as Bissell has a design defect & is using cheap parts.

Why are new belts breaking immediately?

Could be the brush has resistance..
While the new belt is in place - spin the brush by hand.. The brush should spin reasonably freely..
If not - take the brush out and inspect it.. Be sure the ends are not jammed and you can snin them easily.. If not - replace the brush..
PS - the belt goes in one way.. If inside-out - it will not last as long..
Directions on packageing..

Hope this helps !!

Installing a belt

1. Unplug the vacuum
2. Take the bottom cover over the brush off by removing the 3 screws
3. Switch the brush roll control lever to bare floor
4. Take the roller brush out
5. Put the belt around the small pulley from the motor
6. As you are putting the roller brush back in put the belt around the space on the roller brush - center the belt on that space - THE BELT WILL NOT BE TIGHT BUT THAT'S NORMAL
7. Reinstall the bottom cover with the 3 screws

THE BELT DOES NOT GO AROUND THE SILVER PULLEY CONNECTED TO THE BRUSH ROLL CONTROL LEVER

Change belt

Remove the bottom plate, the V belt goes around the inner pulley and then the brush roll. The flat belt goes around the motor shaft and will stretch to around the bigger pulley by the V belt. f9e9b4d.jpg

Belts

There should be 2 or 3 screws on the top cover, then you can remove the cover and the brush roll and belt are in the open. Put the belt around the motor shaft, then around the brush roll and stretch it until it goes into the place for the brush roll. While out, check the brush roll ends, make sure they turn freely, if not, then replace it.
