Question about KitchenAid Architect® Series II KSRB27FH

1 Answer

I have a Kitchen Aid Model KSRB27FHSS02 Side by Side and the fridge is working fine, but the freezer is not working properly. All the food in it is starting to defrost, what do I do???? I cleaned the "radiator" underneath of all dust, but it hasn't seemed to help much. Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hello there:
If the freezer seems to be Is the thermostat knob turned to the proper setting? Is the compressor motor running? It's a football-sized case with no apparent moving parts on the outside of the freezer at the back near the bottom. Is it humming or making any kind of continuous noise? If it is, but your freezer is still not cooling at all, there may be a serious problem with one or more of these areas: The compressor The condenser The evaporator You can't service these yourself. You need to contact a qualified appliance repair technician. If the compressor isn't running but you do have power to the freezer, there may be a problem in one or more of these areas: The compressor The overload and relay The defrost timer It cools poorly or it's all iced up If your freezer cools but doesn't get cold enough, it may have a problem in one of several areas. To better understand the proper operation of a freezer, read about freezers in the How Things Work section of our website. In a self-defrosting freezer, poor cooling often results from a heavy frost build-up on the evaporator coils. You can't see these coils without removing a panel inside your freezer. But if you see any frost or ice build-up on the inside walls, ceiling, or floor of your freezer, it's a sure sign of frost build-up. And that's a sign of a problem with the self-defrosting system.

Freezers should self-defrost three to four times in 24 hours. But if a component in the self-defrosting system fails, the freezer continues to try to cool, instead. Eventually, so much frost builds up on the evaporator coils that the circulating fan can't draw air over the coils. There's still some cooling because the coils are frozen. But with no air flow over the coils, the cooling is quite limited and the freezer isn't as cold as it needs to be.

An easy (though often inconvenient) test of whether the problem is with the self-defrosting system is to remove all of the perishable food from the freezer, turn the thermostat to Off, and leave the door open for 24 to 48 hours. (Keep several towels handy in case the melting frost and ice overflows the drip pan). This "manually" defrosts the freezer. When the frost and ice build-up has completely melted away, turn the thermostat back to a normal setting. If the freezer then cools properly, it indicates a problem with one of these components in the self-defrosting system:
The defrost timer. To test this, manually advance to the defrost cycle. The unit should advance itself out of the defrost cycle in about 45 minutes.
The defrost thermostat (or bi-metal switch). This thermostat allows current to pass through it at temperatures of 20 to 30 degrees Fahrenheit and prevents current from passing through it at 40 to 60 degrees (depending on its design). This is difficult to test, though, because it takes a prolonged, very-cold temperature to turn it on.
The defrost heater. You can test this for continuity using an electrical meter.

I have a kitchen aid KSC24C8EYY the problem is that the refrigerator does not cool stay cool below 40 degrees, Holding 43-45 range. The freezer maintains freezing but not to the 2 degree setting.

well, how full is your fridge. if your fridge is blocking any of the return air vents, thats usually where the problem lies with side by sides. you need good air flow in these models for proper temps in the fresh food compartment

Buzzing sound Kitchen Aid fridge Model KBLA20EMSS

It may be the arm in the ice maker is down. Even though the ice maker does not have the water hooked up if the arm above the ice bin is down it will still cycle the ice maker try lifting up the arm it should stay up this signals the ice maker that the bin is full and should shut off the ice maker. Hope this helps.

Kitchen aid KSRG25FKSS04 freezer is not freezing

Hello, few things to check:

1) Remove dirt / dust that has accumulated on the condenser coil located on the back of the fridge, or underneath. Use a vacuum to clean off with.

2) Remove dirt / dust in / around compressor area. Make sure you turn power off first as there are several areas in this area that can "bite."

3) Look for heavy frost / ice buildup in the freezer compartment. Defrost if necessary.

4) Make sure the fan is blowing in the freezer compartment.

5) Make sure there is air flow from the vent at the top of the refrigerator compartment. This air is driven by the fan in the freezer (most models).

6) Loading a lot of unfrozen food into the freezer compartment will have the appearance of the fridge going out, but is actually functioning normally as it removes heat from the food so it will freeze.

7) Your thermostat is not working correctly. Move it to the coldest setting if not already done so. Listen for the compressor to kick on. If it doesn't, bad t-stat.

Thanks

  1. check gasket
  2. check the light switch on top of the refrig. section. If then pushed the switch turns the light off, but the light is still on with the fridge door closed - door needs adjustment.

Kitchen Aid Fridge problem

ok first the freezer does all the cooling for the whole unit and in order for it to cool properly the freezer needs to be a certain temp it should be around -10 -6 if its not reaching that temp it will still freeze and apper to be working right also check to hear if the freezer fan is running as it pulls air from the fridge and cools it then blowes it back look in the freezer on the back wall toward the bottom see if frost is building also in the refridgerator section on the left hand side of the cabnit is a return vent make sure its not blocked and see what the thermostat in the freezer is and let me know we need to know things like this to help narrow the promblems and people dont reply to the questions so we cant answer appliance repair is a skill

Does freezer cool like the cold food section? Did this suddenly happen, and frozen food began to thaw?  Most freezers control the cooling in the cold food section. The freezer must work fine before the cold food section will work fine. Let us know more, Thanks JT
