SOURCE: trying to scan: I can
When you try to scan using the product control panel, the message 'Error: LCD List needs to be upgraded ' displays on the computer. The 'LCD list' is the list of potential scan destinations that displays on the printer.
The solution to this issue is to re-establish the connection between the computer and the printer, and then set up the scan destination list again, if necessary. Try the following solutions in the order presented.
Solution one: Restart and reset
Follow these steps to restart your computer and reset the printer.
Solution Two: I will post it after confirm the issue still exists.

SOURCE: When I try to scan
This means the printer has lost the front panel menu items, likely due to some Microsoft update or firewall update in the computer.
Launch the HP solution center on the computer. Click the SETTINGS button. Hover over or click the SCAN SETTINGS button, and choose SCAN TO SETUP. Add or remove items depending on the options you wish to be available at the time of scan, and click UPDATE DEVICE.
Your scan options should now be available from the front panel of the device.
If this did not work, try again in 30 minutes.
If this still didn't work, you may need to uninstall and reinstall the software.
NOTE: these instructions assume you are using the CUE13 (black interface) software.
If you are not, uninstall the software and drivers for the printer that you are using, and go to the HP website, and get the latest drivers and CUE software.
