The Makita Factory may repair them, and then resell them in reconditioned kits, but they will only sell you a new one, or replace it under warranty.

My dc18ra makita battery charger flashes red and green lights no matter how many bateries i try

The pcb inside the battery has a microcontroller that monitor the charges and charge cycle. When the cell falls below a certain voltage, it will instruct the charger not to charge and will show with a red-green flashing light. If the battery has been tried 3 times in succession then the pcb will brick itself from the makita charger. So first replace the bad cells. There are 2 solutions at this moment: charge with a 3rd party lithium charger like the imax b6 or replace the pcb with a working one. check out my blog on http://mkbl1830.blogspot.com/

RYOBI CHARGER RED AND GREEN FLASHING LIGHT

My charger blinks red and green but I've literally only used my chainsaw 4 times. It's less than a year old. It won't charge the battery. What could be the issue? Or can I take it back to home Depot and use the warranty? Any help will be welcome.

I bought a makita tool set from Home Depot not even three months ago and i just tried to charge my batteries and the red and green light is coming on for both batteries. Is it possible both batteries went...

Hi David, there are 2 things you can do.
1) If you still have the reciept, I would take it back to Home Depot and attempt an exchange, assuming the tools look like they only have half an hour on them. That will be the quickest, if it works.
2) Follow the link below, type in your zip code and take it into your nearest Authorized Warranty Center. They will also require a receipt.

At this point it is irrelevant what is wrong with it if its under warranty. If it ends up not being under warranty for whatever reason, your assumptions are correct. It could very well be both batteries at the same time, or a faulty charger. Big box stores like Home Depot dont recycle stock the way they should. I went to a local Home Depot and found a DeWalt battery with a date code that was 4 years old.

I hope this helps, and good luck.

MAKITA LXT BL1830 18V LITHIUM-ION 3.0AH BATTERY

If the charge count on the batteries is under 300, Makita will replace them. Makita has a known defect in this battery that causes the battery to shut down before it is dead. So as of now they are exchanging ones with low use.

If they are truly defective and makita won't replace, you have to open them, find the dead cell or blown fuse, and replace. Search youtube makita battery for a video on repairing this battery. But once the red and green lights on the charger flash, the the battery can't be charged on a Makita charger -- it's been locked. So use a third party charger.

Battery charger

Sounds like a bad battery. If so, be sure to recycle it. You can carry them to Lowes or Home Depot and drop in the recycle bin, usually by the front returns desk.
