Question about Canon PowerShot A75 Digital Camera

1 Answer

The camera stopped working without particular reason. It won't turn on, batteries are new. I hate throwing it out as it was a terrific little camera to slip in my bag.

Things to check first for a camera that won't turn on are battery contact points, and micro switches that are located on the battery and memory card doors. Troubleshooting tips on other things that need to be checked may be seen here. These tips won't work for every case, but they're worth a try.

The little box inside my rechargeable lamp gets very hot when i try to recharge it. what is the problem?

The "little box" to which you're referring is one of two things, both of which are designed to get warm (but not burning hot) when your flashlight is recharging. The first, obviously, is the battery; it will naturally warm as it recharges. The second, and perhaps what you're referring to, is a voltage regulator designed to make sure that the battery is getting proper voltage. That second box is also designed to get warm, but over time, as heat sink compound shifts and/or components inside start to age, that can get much warmer while still properly functioning.

Neither of these components is user-serviceable, though either can be replaced if it is defective. A hot battery indicates the possibility of some internal short-circuiting, though if the lamp continues to work, it could simply the be result of increased internal resistance in the battery due to lead plate sulfation.

The bottom line is that you might as well keep using the light as-is until it stops working. At that point, if it's the battery that's been getting hot, you might want to see whether you can get an affordable replacement battery for your light. Otherwise, sad to say, the unit has reached the end of its useful life. I hate throwing items like this away, but without the availability of affordable replacement parts (replacement batteries sometimes cost more than an entire new light!), that may be the only reasonable way to go.

Good luck!

My vaio laptop powers off when unplugged. I replaced the battery but now it won't powerup at all.

I've run into that before.....you likely have one of those that do not, in fact, work with their 'extended-life' batteries....or it is a Bad one.

Call them back and send it back / exchange for a regular one.

There are other complaints all over the internet about this cameras' battery life. Are you using NiMH batteries or alkaline? If you used 8 you must be using alkaline. If they are heavy duty regular batteries you are using the wrong kind of battery. NiMh hold more power and last longer with a flatter power curve up till they are about done. Recahrging means not buying lots of batteries too. They should last for a long, long time; like a week or two at least. The gear linkage in the lens is seized or is out of alignment, this is a job for a camera specialist, I recommend estimate first.

How do you get the camera to charge? I put in new batteries and it still says battery low and shuts off. I have plugged it into the computer and it still won't charge. It won't even turn on.

Some camera will not turn on (Turn on but not take pictures etc) when you plug it in USB, it will only communicate with the camera PC suite software to transfer pictures.

Regarding the battery, if your camera has mobile phones type lithium ion batteries then you can either charge these batteries outside if you have a charger for them or put the battery in camera and plug the camera with its charger that came with it. Its just like charging mobile phone.

If your camera uses AA size (pencil cell) batteries then you will need to either buy Duracell batteries (or any other good Alkaline battery, Duracell is good) and throw them when they stop working or

Buy rechargeable AA size Ni-MH or Li-Ion batteries with charger. Charge the battery with its charger for at least 12 hours before first use or follow the instruction written on battery pack.

I think you are either using normal carbon AA size batteries that are used in clocks or toys, these will not work in digital camera.

Hello Kate, See if you can find an internet cafe. I was reading the white balance section of your manual and there is nothing that stops your camera from taking pictures if the white balance is off. Turn your camera off, remove your batteries for about 30 seconds and let it reset to default. Then try inserting the batteries and see if this helps. I wouldn't mind sending you this manual if you can provide an email address. Or a link to go to is: www.olympus.com, then select americas, then select support, then select your camera, then download your manual in PDF format. I wouldn't want your vacation ruined either.
