Multiple problems with my nokia 2610 cell phone

I have had three or four basic Nokia cell phones and never had any problems. Two day before heading east for my son's wedding my old phone died when I spilled a glass of iced tea on it. I bought this new phone, flew east and knew before I even landed that I HATE THIS PHONE. You have two weeks to return and by the time i got back to Ohio to take it to Cincinnati Bell (my carrier) the 14 days had passed. I am stuck with this thing, unless I buy another phone manufactured by another company. I really don't want to do that. Cincinnati Bell's customer service people have tried to help, but they were useless - and it's not a carrier problem. It's a Nokia problem.
Here are just some of the major things that are making my head explode.
1. The font is about 8 point. Cincinnati Bell says it can't be enlarged. Is that correct? I can't read it -- sometimes I have to use a magnifying glass to read contact names. Same deal with incoming calls but there's no time to use a magnifier to read the name on the screen when the phone rings. i have no idea who is calling until i answer the phone. Can the font be enlarged?
2. The background color scheme is sky blue -- the contact names are black until you click on one -- at that point the name turns white. The contact names are all in small orange boxes. The color scheme is IMPOSSIBLY awful for clarity if you're trying to read something -- that, on top of the font being so tiny. Can the color scheme be changed to make it easier to read what's on the screen? Cincinnati Bell people tell me i have no other color scheme options. Is that true?
3. Volume -- a couple of issues here. First of all and most important, I can't hear the phone ring unless it's in my pocket or right beside me at the desk or table. If it's in my purse and my purse is next to me, I can't hear the phone ring. It is that bad -- pathetic. The volume is apparently turned up as far as it will go. I have tried all the different ring tones, hoping one would be obnoxiously loud or just obnoxious enough that I can hear it. Nothing works. I am missing about 8 out of every 10 phone calls that come in. That's unacceptable. Same thing with alert tones for incoming text messages -- or an alert about a voice mail message. I can't hear the alert -- and again, i've tried different tones. I think this is related to the same volume problem i have with hearing the phone ring or when talking on the phone. Also when i'm talking on the phone, I have to be in a space that has absolutely no other noise. I can't have a conversation in a grocery store or if a radio or the TV is running in the same room. It's extremely frustrating. Can the volume be improved? It's tuned up as high as possible on the menu options. Is it possible that one of the internal speakers is broken? If so, how in the world do I get attention from Nokia and make an exchange without losing my phone. I don't have a home land line phone -- I need my cell phone every day.
4. Text messages -- Sheesh. I can receive texts msgs from other phone numbers and i can reply. i can also receive test msgs from email address but I can NOT reply. Yes, our service allows replying to email messages but the phone doesn't support it -- or I haven't figured out how to do it. My daughter lives in France and we used to send mgs all the time. She would email to my phone and I would reply to her email address. I can still get messages from her but when I try to reply 0000000 is in the send to area. i have added her email address to my list of contacts. i have tried typing in her email address where the 0000000 appears, but the phone only accepts numbers in that area, It is incredibly frustrating that we can't communicate with short text messages. We used to do it all the time on my previous Nokia phones. What am I doing wrong? or what do I need to do to enable this feature?

My name is Susan and I HATE MY PHONE.
Thank you for any help you can give me with any of these problems.

I was able to fix one of the problems I listed. If you need to increase the volume so you can hear the person on the other end of the line, you must do the following WHILE YOU ARE TALKING ON THE PHONE TO SOMEONE (otherwise this solution won't work). In the center of the phone right under the screen is a large black box with a silver frame that you typically use to get to your menus. While you are having a conversation with someone, push on the right side of the silver frame -- keep pushing and the volume will increase to the highest possible level. This fixes the problem of hearing people when you are talking to them.
It did not fix the the problem I'm having of not being able to hear the phone ring or hear alert tones for messages.
Still need to know if the font size can be enlarged and if the color scheme can be changed for more clarity.
Thanks a lot

I've struggled with the same problems using text messaging to send emails. I FINALLY FIGURED IT OUT!!! Here's how to save an email address to use when sending text msgs...
Add a new contact, and enter a name. Instead of entering a number in the phone number field, choose "Options" (left button), then choose "Add Detail", then "E-mail address". This let's you enter a real text email address. Save the contact, then use it in the "To:" field when texting.
When replying to an email, just clear the 0000000, and add the email contact you have saved for that person. (Personally, I don't need to do this step. I have always been able to reply to an email, even though the strange numbers show in the To: field. But I could not compose one from scratch because there seemed no way to enter the address. Glad that problem's finally solved!!!)

Typically the easiest way to find the registration code for your basic phone is to call your carrier. They should be able to provide this information to you as it is documented with the serial number of the handset.

Have you tried using the last four digits of your phone number? Sometimes that is the first code to use and then you can set up another code.

hai,
The problem may be the phone is set up for the switch on password protection.Try contact the friend who is the ex-owner of the phone for the code/password or take the phone to the nearest Nokia service centre.
