SOURCE: yamaha receiver model rx-v550

it is your protection circuit working, preventing the unit from any further damage to circuitry. you can check first your speaker cabling for any short connections, possibly red/black terminal wires got entangled. if all ok then try removing all speakers then turn on the amp. if still does the same thing turning off then you have a problem with the amp output stage, shorted power output transistrs/driver probably. if the unit turns on normal without the speakers then you must have one or both of your speakers busted. by the way this amp is multi channel, after removing ALL the speakers connected, and does not turn off anymore, put the speakers back one by one and observe if the unit with turn off and on which set of speakers. otherwise if still trips even without the speakers, it is your amplifier that is deffeective, any of the five channels, main, rear, center. let me know result so i can guide you on how you can get it repaired and what will be the extent of damage in case.

Yes, by definition a receiver is a combination of a tuner and an amplifier in one chassis.

Rx-v550 receiver. Can't find a way to make the headphones and speakers on at the same time. Tried setting SP Zone B permanual, and only headphones work.

Generally speaking a receiver will power either the speakers OR the headphones. It is rare for you to be able to have both. The insertion of the headphones interrupts the signal to the speaker section. There are headphone amps available which would allow you to use the tape-out section of the receiver to get a signal to the amp wihtout effecting Zone B.

I want to connect a phono turntable to my RX V550. any suggestions?

No can do without an intervening phono preamp.

Check out eBay for one or, if you still have an older stereo receiver with a Phono input hanging around, use it to preamplify the TT and run an RCA pair from the Tape Out to any available stereo input on your Yamaha.

I have two Component Video products (DVD and Cable Receiver) plugged in but can't get the DVD to work. How do I switch from one to the other? This is for a Yamaha RX=V550

Inputs on your receiver are assignable. Assign one input to DVD function and other input to DTV/CBL for example. Refer to page 49 of your manual for instructions.

My front main speaker channel is no longer working. The fuses on the power side are intact. There was no obvious time of failure. anything else i should check?

I know this sound silly, but, have you checked the tini tiny button on the front of the receiver that says A/B on it in microscopic letters? other than that, not much else to check. It happens all the time! Hope this helps.
