DVD player won't read disks

I just picked this up used. It appears to be in very good condition, however when I attempt to watch a DVD it says there's no disk. I opened the case to see if there was an obvious problem, and the DVD player spins the disk 1/4 turn three times, and then stops. I'm no tech. but this appears to be the problem. Is the motor weak? Or maybe the belt's slipping? And finally, is this something that I should mess with? I know these things are pretty cheap. If there's no simple fix I'll probably just replace it. Thanks you guys!

Have you tried cleaning the lens? It may well be that the lens is dirty from the previous owner more so if he was a smoker, try a little cd lens cleaner on a clean cotton bud rub the lens gently and blow over it, you can also buy a cd lens cleaner kit, but to be honest with you, you can pick up a brand new one at asda from £15.00 upwards and that comes with a yrs warranty. please be careful when cleaning the lens, I hope that this helps you out please let me know if it has worked
Good Luck

Most of the time when it spins the disc just a little, it is trying to get a reflection or focus lock on the disc. The laser pick up is blind, it can't see the disc so it will not spin it up fast. A DVD or CD player can look perfect and still have a major problem.

It is possible that the spindle motor is bad, but more likely the laser is bad.

There is one other possibility that will make it worth your time to check. since it is pretty much a disposable product, you can try to clean the lens on the laser yourself and not worry if you damage it.

Take a Q-tip and wet it just slightly with a little windex or alcohol.
Then you just rub the lens of the laser very lightly a couple of times and then use the dry side of the Q-tip to dry it off.

You want to be careful not to use too much windex or alcohol because it can spill over into the tracking and focus coils and cause problems. Also, don't press the Q-tip ******* the lens, you can also damage the coils that way.

You can identify the lens easy because it is small and is looks like glass and is circular about a quarter inch across it.

I hope this helps you and if it does please give me a good rating.

Some rented discs won't play becauses of scratches and dirt, if other DVD 'S work it is not your player, but if all won't play try a DVD cleaning kit and follow instructions.

Dvd disc want play. Attempted to play several disc with negative results. Receive message that says"No Disc".

  • This could be a real easy fix actually. When you have a disk in the DVD player and it says "NO DISK" the 1 of 3 things is going on.
  1. Make sure you have a non home made DVD. Some DVD players will not play DVD'S in certain formats.
  2. If you have a normal DVD in the DVD player and are getting "NO Disk" then there is a real good possibility the lens is just so dirty that it is not recognizing your DVD at all. This happens a lot to all disk players that are neglected from the cleaning process. Get a disk player cleaner and run it through a few times until the disk is read again. Sometimes the lens is so dirty you have to try a few times just to get the cleaner disk itself to play just to do the actual cleaning. Make sure to run that cleaner disk through once a week. These disk cleaners "sweep" the lens and work well. You can get one at your local Best Buy for $8usd.
  3. The last thing it could be is that somehow the lens has come out of alignment. Just a millimeter out of alignment is all it takes to not be able to read a disk and DVD players get bumped and knocked off the shelf easy. So this can happen often especially with the more smaller travel DVD player.

  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

My DVD player won't read, keeps saying disk error

In most cases when the CD does not play it is possible that the optical head is a suspect. Sometimes it might pick up ordinary audio CD but will not play other formats. This indicates that the optical head is weak and so there is no detection or scanning of the CD . If the optical is working the tracks will be read immediately but with no scanning the laser head can be defective.

The main motor will not work in some cases as unless the tracks are read the drive motor will not work with signal from the processor.
Sometimes certain cleaner disks will not be tracked to run for cleaning as it will not be read and so will reject. Hence it is ideal to manually clean the laser head eye using a cleaning swap /cotton bud with gentle pressure on the lens eye.
If there is no result then watch if the CD spins or tries to spin. If so the board seems to work unless a test is taken on the main board but the possibility of a defective optical head can be the suspected fault.
If any of the above seems otherwise we must recheck with possibilities of a malfunction of the main processor board

My portable dvd player will not read any dvds

  • I would give it a good cleaning with a disk player cleaning. Those disks have little bristles on them that "sweep" the lens and clean it real well. Remember that if the lens is so dirty that it won't play any DVD you may need to run that cleaner disk a few times to get the lens back to normal working condition.
  • A lens cleaner disk should be ran one time a week to avoid problems with playing disks be it CD or DVD or Computer.
  • Sometimes players go bad so keep in mind this could be the problem as well but I have had the DVD player in my garage get so dirty I had to clean it a few times to get it to work normal.
  • Hope this helps and thank you for using FixYa.

RGB 3 input is saying "illegal signal" when I try to switch to it and use it for my blu-ray dvd player

Attempt three condition inspections. First, the TV should be set to acquire an connected external devices. Use the remote control settings to search and acquire signall conversion in this situation set the TV to communicate with DVD BLU player. Second, the connection between Blu disk player and TV should be checked for malallignments. Disconnect every device, observe qeenly, thereafer reestablish an approapiate setup. Once that was the situation, a new message should be acquired making way for the next sequence of experiences. Third, A compartibility should not exist between the blu disk player and T. However, attempt to connect the disk player to another TV to ascertain that the Blu disk player has incompartibilty features with some TVs. If that is that situation, the malcommuication is due to the type of connector cable that transfers signals between your new TV and new BLu disk player. Attempt all three features as diagnostics to the condition should producce desireable results. Consult with technitians expert for devices initial setup. Good luck

LG DVD player displays ''NO DISK'' and fails to read ANY DVD's. having removed cover and watching the carrige that houses the laser it moves back and forwards aprox 3mm as it tries to read then after maybe...

Try this, with your finger stop the motor spindle if you can.
If you are capable to stop the motor, they are on bad conditions and need to be replaced because they loose the velocity required for a good functioning

I have a portable dvd player model number mdp1030 the unit keeps saying no disk I have tried numerous disks same results.

then i think the lens is not able to read the disk.

and so i would suggest you to buy a disk cleaner CD and run it in your DVD player and then use your regular disks.

if this is not working then it is some internal fault in your DVD players lens.

Reads all but DVD-Help PLEASE

When you say it won?t read are you trying to play commercial DVD movies or read DVD data disks? If you're trying to play movies then you need a couple of things the first being some type of player program. Real player works as does Windows media player but usually DVD drives come with a striped down version of PowerDVD or WinDVD. If you in fact have a player installed and when a DVD is inserted in your drive it doesn't play it may not be configured to automatically play DVDs. Try opening your player program and trying to manually play your DVD. Let us know if you have any success or if you need more assisted. If you do let us know what player program and operating system you have and any error messages that may appear.
