Question about Garden

1 Answer

My AC225c welder will start a 7018(new) rod at the proper setting but then quit. Acts like setting is too low but no matter how I run up the setting nothing changes. All 6011,6014 rods weld perfect. Do I have a machine problem.

JAMES B,

FIRST OF ALL THE 7018 WELDING ROD IS REALLY A DC REVERSE POLARITY ROD. IN THE PAST 7-10 YEARS AGO 7018 AC/DC RODS HIT THE MARKET. THEY WELD LIKE ****! YOU DID'NT SAY WHAT DIAMETER YOUR USING,BUT THE ONLY WAY YOU CAN USE THESE RODS IS TO HAVE A BIGGER MACHINE. THE AC225 JUST DOES'NT HAVE ENOUGH POWER TO WELD IN THE AC MODE. WELDING WITH THIS ROD IN DC REV. IS ABOUT 150 AMPS FOR 1/8 DIA.AND ABOUT 110-120 AMPS FOR3/32 DIA. THIS ALSO DEPENDS ON THE BRAND OF MACHINE YOU HAVE. THE 6011-6014 RODS ARE MADE AC -DC,AND YES THEY RUN VERY NICE ON AC. HOPE THIS HELPS EWE OUT,I WAS A WELDER/FAB FOR 35 YEARS AND LOVED EVERY MINUTE! GOD BLESS AND GOD BYE.

Welder is not sending strong arc

maybe its your volts too. make sure you are grounded properly and clean from debri's, strike the electrode like a match and keep the arc close to your work-piece. dont go too fast and make sure your not wearing to strong of a lens in your hood. gold lens number 10 are the best for 7018 rods.

GW450001AC Where can I find a manual? Where can I find the locking connectors on the welding machinge for the welding cables? Are they called small Dintz? Will this machine run 1/8 welding rod?

Try to find the manual from your local tool trader, or go to the manufactures website and give them the serial # and and you can print a manual. I've done it with heavy equipment. To buy the quick connects, just look up welding supply in the yellow pages. Always buy your welding tools and supplies from a lisceansed welding supply. And yes you can weld with 1/8th rod, but you have to turn it up to 140 to do so, and use a 7018 rod

It will strike an arc but has no power to burn a rod doesnt matter how small new or old rod is.only has 150 hrs on it

it sounds as though there is a fault with the rectifier. In which case you'd need to take it to a repair shop to get it repaired properly

I just bought 15 cans unopened of atom 8018 c-1 What is it good for? Should I try to sell it? Thanks

#1: Atom arc rod is very good and expensive rod comparatively speaking. 8018 is similar to 7018. It is an all position rod but instead of 70,000 pound tensile strength , it has 80,000 pound tensile strength.7018 is commonly used in repairs or steel construction 8018 is used in appilcations where the need for a higher strength or stronger weld is called for . Usually when welding higher grade steel than A.-36 It can be used in place of 7018. 5/32 calls for 150+ amps. 1/8 is a more common size.Remember Atom arc is top of line but finding someone who will pay the difference or needs this rod may be hard to find.

WHEN I TRY STRIKE AN ARC WITH A ROD YOU HAVE TO HIT IT 5 OR 6 TIMES TO GET IT TO WELD ITS HARD TO KEEP IT GOING BUT AFTER 4 OR 5 SECONDS IT WILL BURN LIKE NORMAL (USING PROPER AMPERAGE)

Is this on new rods as well as one's you'be been already welding with? Depending on rod types, some will "flux over" the end, after welding insulating the tip. When you're welding at a low setting, with a small rod, sometimes it is hard to start an arc. A 7018 rod is a good example of this. Strike the rod like a woodden match, or drag it on the metal, to expose the rod. It also depends on your welder. Some have settings to help start an arc and then control the current. Older transformer welders arn't that smart and are less forgiving on low current thin metal settings.

Would like online manual

You can download your manual from the Lincoln web site:
http://www.mylincolnelectric.com/Catalog/lecooperatorsmanualsearch.aspx?cnt=0&keyword=ac-225

The picture displayed here isn't a AC225C I don't think, I think that's an S. In any event you can download whatever manual you need.Lotsa luck!

Inverter stick welder welding rod sputters and sticks

It sounds like the rod that you're using is too big. If it is a 110 volt machine, and you're using a 1/8 rod...Then the rod is too big. Try a 3/32 rod.
